Jaxson Moi and Hobbs aren’t would I would consider “key” players. Key players are guys that are difference makers the opposing team has to build their gameplan around. They’re quality college starters that could get drafted late or get picked up as a UDFA. If we were missing a a couple of guys that would be getting drafted early next April it would be another story. Of course the edge rushers played well for us. We’ve recruited at an elite level at those positions and typically land 2 4-5 stars a year. At DT though we’ve signed a bunch of 3 stars, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing since 3 stars can become first rounders too. The problem is the 3 stars we’ve landed showed today they’re not cut out for SEC footballIt looks that way when key players are missing in the middle. Take away two starting DTs off any roster and see how it impacts your defense. I thought the edge rushers played well today.
Of course they did, those guys were blue chip prospects, Nathan Robinson, Jamal Wallace, and Carson Gentle weren’t though and that’s my whole point. We’re not recruiting at the same level across the board like elite teams do and that’s the fault of our coaching staffHerring and Josephs played well.
We’re better than 95% of the country because Heupel wins those chess matches on offense though. Not because we have better talent than 95% of the countryWhen you’re 95% better than the rest of the country, you are on par with the top. At that point, it becomes a chest match and a game of chance.
Revel in the fact that you are at the top of the stack.
Those two ARE difference makers. Moi is listed as a starter for a reason and Hobbs is a recruit Georgia wanted badly. You’re kidding yourself if you think otherwise.Jaxson Moi and Hobbs aren’t would I would consider “key” players. They are key players because they are two of our best DTs. Their absence was noticeable today.Jaxson Moi and Hobbs aren’t would I would consider “key” players. Now go watch the AP game and see what they ran and didn’t run. They had an entirely different game plan. No surprise. The AP game and the UT game had a couple of things in common- Georgia was one of the teams and them winning. Everything was different. They gave up 40 and Georgia dominated TOP 2:1. Austin Peay was able to have a goal line stand on the road against them and we couldn’t stop them at home
They didn’t run anything exotic once they got the ball inside the 5 in OT. They just blew us off the ball like they did the entire game for the most part. There was 1 play where we didn’t even have a body between the guards and their RB didn’t get touched on an inside zone until he got past the LBs. If we just have average interior DL play today we’re taking knees to close the game outNow go watch the AP game and see what they ran and didn’t run. They had an entirely different game plan. Dude, it’s the hardest position on the field to recruit. Just not enough big bodies that can run as needed. Next toughest is OT.Never said he forgot how to coach, just that he’s neglected the interior of our DL when it comes to HS recruiting, you can spin it however you want, but the film and depth chart numbers don’t lie. We haven’t landed a true DT out of HS that’s a blue chipper
No it’s not, we just choose to not go after elite interior DL and spend our resources on pass rushers rather than run stoppers because we’re going to be playing with a lead a lot of the timeDude, it’s the hardest position on the field to recruit.
