Staff changes for next year.

That's fine, but you've provided basically nothing to back up your claim that he's a bad QB coach. Bray has been unbelievable, and Matt Simms is going to be below average no matter who coaches him. We basically have no way of knowing either way because we have had both extremes in terms of talent these past two seasons.

I think Bray is just playing based upon his raw talent. Just look at Simms he looks like a deer in a headlight.

So, what you're saying is that you think some other coach could make Matt Simms into a better player? That's not a very compelling argument. It's safe to say that he is not coached to make one read and stare at them the entire time, hold onto the football, and never ever throw it away.

I know the guy is young and can recruit, but what sticks out on his resume as a coach?

And I asked you if you thought a different coach would have done a better job with Matt Simms. I am also asking you what sticks out that he isn't a good coach. The guy played QB at UCF, had a stint in the NFL, was an offensive coordinator, QB coach, and wide receivers coach. What he worked with last year managed to take our worst roster in probably 30 years and make a bowl game while passing for over 3,000 yards and 20+ something touchdowns.

By all accounts, Tyler Bray has improved dramatically between last season and this season in getting through his progressions and finding open receivers. Last year he most certainly got by on talent alone, but this year his understanding of defenses and our playbook is much, much, improved.

I think Moore, Brewer, and Teague have been a huge dissappointment in the secondary. Especially Teague, the poor guy has been running around like a chicken with his head cut off. Brewer has had some big hits this season but his coverage has been weak. The future looks bright with Coleman and Randolph. Lanier has had some good moments.

Thought brewer and moore would be better. Never know how much shifting players hurts.

Exactly. It's amazing the progress our guys made in towel waving.

dude no matter where they put him the guys produced. he is a elite recruiter. part of fulmers downfall was when he got rid of him.

What I'm saying is if you put Bray under Weis or Cutcliffe then you have a true QB. I don't think he has fully developed yet. His potential is out the door. I think what Bray is doing is all based on his talent, don't really think Hinshaw is doing much teaching the position.

Oh for god sakes...I wasted 7 seconds of my life reading that nonsense....Seriously, Watch a few games before making a stupid comment like that.

No Coaches should be fired until after next year.

You can't get a good gauge on these coaches with this roster.

FACE THE FACTS

First time I am going to disagree with you.

Hinshaw does need another year but Joseph no way.

This off season Coach Dooley needs to go over his staff and make some changes. I never was and will be a big fan of Hinshaw. I think the guy is a pretty good recruiter, and IF we do keep him it will be because of his past in Florida recruiting. Since Day 1, Chaney should have been the QB coach. I know his history as a position coach has mainly been with OL and TE, but this is the guy that called Drew Brees' plays @ Purdue.
The guy is doing a pretty good job as a Recr. Cood, but I don't think Terry Joseph is a very good secondary coach. I really thought our secondary this year would be real good, obviously you can't replace a Janzen Jackson but guys like Moore and Teague have been a bust so far this year. Although I think Coleman and Randolph have come on strong and look promising.
The guy is an ace recruiter and a good LB coach but I think his work is cut out for him as a DL coach, but I hope Thompson stays on staff. This guy will pull some Georgia and Alabama talent. I know some people are calling for Hiestand's hand, but remember this guy has had some good success on his resume. I know our running game has been terrible all year but I think a good reason why it is not working 'cause we don't have a RB coach. I thought Chaney was the RB coach but according to utsports.com, we don't have a RB coach listed. I think Chaney's playcalling has been very good and I believe Wilcox's D has played up to its potential, but the 2nd half kills us with our depth but this will pay off in the near future. Our special teams play has been better under Russel, everytime Young has the ball in his hands I tend to hold my breath. I think the asst coach that should get all the praise for his work and recruiting efforts is Coach Sirmon. This guy has taken a former FB and 2 freshmen and they have racked up some good stats here recently. Our linebackers have played superb football this year. Maggit and Johnson are going to be studs in this league and I expect the same thing from Santos. Last but not least GO VOLS!

I want his hand on my desk by 3pm!

Wsa going to mention Hiestand as a possibility, but the play seems to have improved at least a little.

Joseph seems like he should have some work to do.

I say fire the guy who made his unit worse. I dare say, so would Dooley.

No unit is worse this year than it was last year. Almost every unit is younger and/or thinner than last year. Put some age and some numbers on the squad then you can tell which of these coaches need to go. No coach on this team has proven he's a liability.

just an opinion my friend... nothing factual with what I said.

We do need some staff changes though. Just not sure how he makes them work. I think we need 2 additional elite recruiters.

This is THE post of the entire thread imo. It's not that we don't recruit well because we're doing pretty darn well. It's just that too much of the recruiting success is coming from too few of the coaches. I like the current staff and don't know how CDD would shift things around, but at least one elite recruiter would be nice. Then we could expect to consistently recruit with the big boys.

No knock on Terry Joseph, but I'd like to see him haul in a great prospect or two come NSD. I'd also like to see a more assertive recruiting approach from CJW, but it's not unusual for coordinators to be less active recruiters.

Recruiting wise Sirmon is killing it, Thompson has a proven track record, Hinshaw is good, Hiestand and Russell are usually good for a couple of guys but are replacable as recruiters imo.

I don't have many complaints about the offensive staff or even the players they're recruiting.

These 2 hides should come from the D side where we aren't doing much of anything very well, imo.

Quick question for you recruiting/coach gurus - Can you have a recruiting coordinator who is not a coach? Will the NCAA allow it?

IMO we're getting some pretty good tallent. Not gonna get into the star debate but just outside the top ten classes with our recent on-the-field record seems pretty damn good.

I'd like to see the players we have improve from year to year. RB's have taken a decline this year and so has our sec.

in this league, 10-15 ranking will keep us middle of the SEC.. UNLESS, we pull an Auburn and luck into a couple elite Juvo's that can flip a team in one year..

right now we are in the mid to lower level of SEC

a head coach gets 9 assistant coaches. he can take those 9 coaches and hand out resposibilities how he see's fit. It is tough to have an RC only as one of them anyway.

Dooley coordinates the recrutiing strategy and targets. his RC manages the details on the targets they are after and pushes paper. this is true with most HC's. adding RC title to someone helps get them a little more $$

I thought it would be a strength as well. I didn't expect Jackson to get the boot.

Jackson could cover up a lot of the issues with DBs. too small, young and/or slow overall without Jackson to cover up mistakes. it was critical he stay straight but it was a slim chance as Dooley alluded to all off season (his day to day reference)
