Really? that would definitely make my day. I need to be on snare though, and I doubt there are any drumline spots.

If you'd be willing to take up something else to get in the band, you'd be looked on very favorably for next year's drumline audition, though...

The problem is I broke my back in 2004, I'm not sure if I could carry bass or quints. I'd really have to swallow my pride for the cymbals.

I'm 100% positive that the DL is set. You'd have to look horn-wise if you wanted to make it at this point. But if you wanted to go in on any wind, I'm sure you could do it.

I could probably pull trumpet or trombone out of my backside, but I'd really have to practice. Like to the point that it would interfere with class.

Guess it's time for you to take your signature to heart. Give your all for Tennessee (and the Pride)...

Well. I haven't picked up a trombone since 1992 or so, and I never actually played the trumpet, but it is what was recommended for me when I first started band in NoVa. Once I learned the keys and knocked the rust off my note reading skills I think I could maybe do it.

Volingatorland, where did you go to school in NoVa? I went to Gar-field Highschool in Woodbridge, and also marched snare for the Pride from 01-03. You are the same age as me, so I am guessing that we were in NoVa at the same time.

I went to James Wood in Winchester, Massanutten Military Academy in Woodstock, and Fork Union Military Academy near Charlottesville. My first attempt at college I went to VMI. I was snare all through high school and freshman section leader on snare at the I, until I left right after the ratline.

Hey I used to live in NoVA also, I graduated from Annandale High but much earlier than you guys. I was not in the band but was in the Flag Corps.

I would definitely say to march if you can. However you should know that it does take up a lot of time with practice three days a week, plus almost every saturday, and this doesn't include the travel days that you have to take to go to the away games (although this year shouldn't be too bad).

If you can't wait until the first game to see the new Jumbotron, come out this Saturday, August 15. The UT Pride of the Southland band will be having their practice Saturday in Neyland Stadium and it's open to the public. The day will start at 9 AM when the band will march from the band room to the stadium. They will rehearse their "Salute to the Hill" right outside of the stadium. I've attended this rehearsal for many years....and it gets my blood going for the opening game.

I can't think of a better way to kick off the football season. Let me encourage you to come join the fun.
This sounds like fun...I am thinking of coming by to watch.

I'm going! I marched my freshman year (07) but couldn't continue unfortunately because of my heavy class load (architecture major here). I would give almost anything to still be in the Pride! Some of the best memories that year that I will NEVER forget!

If you're willing to try tuba, I've heard there's a 500.00 stipend in it. Not positive about the details, but that's the word.

What sort of new stuff is the band working up for this year? Anyone know?

If the band doesn't play Layla, the director needs to get his azz whipped.

When I walked by the intramural field, they were practicing the theme from star wars

I'll let you take care of that. He's slow enough.
All that being said, I have high doubts that it'll be played.

I was in the trumpet line 1989-90. That was a fun year. Went to the Cotton Bowl and had Lee Greenwood signing Proud to be an American as the centerpoint of the show. We also did an Elvis show at some point in the year (maybe Homecoming) with David Keith impersonating the King (kind of weak, but oh well). We also played LSU in Baton Rouge that year and they let us stay in downtown New Orleans - now that was fun. My one and only trip to Sin City.

As a matter of fact, insider info has told me that the white folder didn't change.
