If you can't wait until the first game to see the new Jumbotron, come out this Saturday, August 15. The UT Pride of the Southland band will be having their practice Saturday in Neyland Stadium and it's open to the public. The day will start at 9 AM when the band will march from the band room to the stadium. They will rehearse their "Salute to the Hill" right outside of the stadium. I've attended this rehearsal for many years....and it gets my blood going for the opening game.

I can't think of a better way to kick off the football season. Let me encourage you to come join the fun.

wish you were strapping on a drum for it as well. I did it for four years....and it was INCREDIBLE. If I didn't have to work for a living...I'd still be doing it. LOL

I heard about this from my band diretor at high school and was about to post this myself. Honestly, I would kill for the opportunity to go. I also hear they're in uniform?

for the last couple of years, they have not marched in their band uniforms. Not sure what they are going to do on Saturday.

hear hear. They must be one in the top 10. This is probably one of the most tradition-keeping and hardworking bands out there! I do hear complaints on Facebook about the short note lenghts. I never understood why they did this...

I was in the drumline there in '93 and '94 (snare)

I play snare as well. My geography professor at my last school screwed me out of my audition because I would have gotten a 0 for 33% of my grade had I come for it. Now I'm not even sure if it's worth it to try for my senior year, but I do have the audition pieces and my pad packed and ready to go to the dorm tomorrow.

POTSMB is tops in the SEC, with Ole Miss a close second.
Best band in the country is USC. Ohio State has a really good band as well.

BELIEVE ME....it's well worth it!!! You go and audition even if it's just for one year. It will be sometime you will cherish the rest of your life!!!

Good luck! I loved it. The only reason I stopped was because my class load got too heavy.

What do you think the chances are that they'd give me a late audition? I'd have to review the music again for a couple days, but I think I could handle it.

I actually marched with a drum corp the summer of '93 and my parents picked me up from the show in Sevierville, drove me over to campus to audition, and then back to catch the bus to head to Indiana. The finals were in Mississippi that year and they drove down, picked me up and drove non-stop to Knoxville so that I could make band camp on time. It was CRAZY!! :)

I have no clue about the audition, but it never hurts to ask. I've been told "NO" many times in my life and I'm still ok. LOL

Drop by the band room when you're on campus. See what you can find out.

My main concern is Wednesday practice runs during ROTC. I don't know if I can do both, and honestly I'd stick with ROTC because I want back in.

EDIT: nvm, ROTC is Tuesday.

I'll be there.
Pride alum of the last 4 years. It's tough to not be there this year...Really tough. When they get on the field it'll be tough to not be brought to tears. Who knows how bad it'll be when they open the T for the first time without me...

We should all plan a meet up for this. Thoughts?

Also, it seems to me that being in the band at UT is a position of honor and you don't really get looked at as a "band geek", I love that, if it's in fact true.

Well it was my dream. Many many years of wanting to be there. It was all worth it, though.

Oh, and if you're a student, you may want to go to the directors and tell them you're interested. From what I've heard, they need more marchers in the worst way...

I've heard the same thing....just in the past few days as a matter of fact.

Really? that would definitely make my day. I need to be on snare though, and I doubt there are any drumline spots.
