Shall we go look in this morning's newspapers and see how many were used in crimes? How many were involved in accidents?

How many violent crimes were prevented because a potential criminal is deterred by the prospect of armed citizens?

So we've established you can count as high as 1. Good, do you really think we have to stop there? We don't, not by a long shot, and you know it.

As much as anything I'm curious to see how much, if any, national attention this gets. To say there's an inverse relationship in national media with coverage regarding "good" usage and "bad" usage of firearms is an understatement of immense proportions.

By definition, unknowable.

Crimes of passion and accidental shootings, or intentional murders, we know are excluded from that.

Might some robbers not do it for fear of guns on possible victims? I suppose that occurs.

If I were to go on a killing spree here in Utah, first thing on my mind is not the police. It's that Jimbo guy with the gun on his hip buying potato chips.

So, even though 2 people were severely injured, the armed citizen announced he had a weapon and gave the suspect a chance to surrender. Hmmn. Hardly sounds vigilantic. The suspect was held at bay until the POLICE arrived. Again, hardly vigilantic. We need more people like him. Not like Zim.

And, before the dummies come out in force, if the ARMED suspect did not stop his attack after being warned, he should be dead now. Period. This is clearly a case where deadly force is neccessary and warranted.

The Zim shooting was racially based in my opinion. And TM bears a striking resemblance to my 3 sons (especially my oldest). Nothing about that case was cool with me. At all. This case however, appears to be clear cut. As long as the knife man was not attacked himself initially, he should now be in prison or dead for going all OJ in the damn store. And I don't care which one.

Not wanting to derail this thread but you do realize that it is precisely that Zimmerman was under attack that provoked the use of his weapon, right?*

*This is the story being told, neither of us are any more privvy to the truth than anybody else on the board. Upshot, the points you try to make here don't relate to the cases you are using.
