Jeez man..... No need for you guys to keep on beating on a man when he's down lol.

Poor Squirrel. I always liked the guy when he was here. Just a pity he could not actually stay upright after catching the ball though.

IIRC, Squirrel had a fairly young child didn't he-part of the reason he had to seek "greener" pastures at FSU?

I wish him luck in whatever comes next in life for him.

I don't see where anyone on this thread beat a man when he's down.

It was fun watching him play. It's tough to be a professional at anything. I am sure he has reasons for retiring. There is humor in retiring from a profession that you only joined weeks before, assuming it's not a tragic or health related retirement. Maybe he'll end up back in Tennessee at some point. Good luck, Squirrel!

I certainly didn't post this to bag on Squirrel, he was great at Tennessee BUT it's extremely odd that in only 11 days he figured his NFL career was over. My (total) guess is he got a medical diagnosis that wasn't good. same as what happend to Jermod McCoy but more extreme since Squirrel was so small.

lots of other players hand around the NFL on practice squads for at least a couple years. it's just not normal to be signed by a team and then declare your own retirement.

ESPN Bears writer Courtney Cronin reported on May 9th, that White left the Bears' practice field with a trainer while the team was still doing stretches and did not return to practice.

Chicago Tribune's Sean Hammond reported that White was seen limping off the practice fields.

White was placed on the team's reserve/retired list, which is a designation given to a player who retires while under contract. This designation allows the Bears to retain his rights should he decide to return to active status. So, his retirement appears to be an admin thing for him and the Bears.

....let's listen in

ol' squirrel just might have a nut up his sleeve,, ,,, maybe a coaching position or something, he's got a 2 year old son that's gotta eat.

Here's the kicker, he left UT without a degree, then got to FSU where he still didn't graduate with a degree.

he did however get a little north of 100,000 dollars from Tennessee and 140,000 from FSU in NIL money, so there's that.

How long until we see a GoFundMe account for him.

again, let's listen in...

The kid played hurt in ‘24 when others wouldn’t have. I wish him the best.

Staff chose to play Staley & let White walk. Good decision.

I am assuming that your $100k figure was his annual NIL and not a cumulative over his 3 years by the river?

Like I said, I'm not gonna jump on Squirrel. Also not gonna come here and tell you folks I was the most mature individual at 22-23.

Life has a way of making you figure it out though. I would imagine there is an avenue for Squirrel to come back and complete his degree at UT if he so chooses either pretty cheaply for for free considering the whole picture.

I wish him well-as I do "most" who have donned the orange and white. As long as he lives a decent life and takes care of his kid, good job Squirrel

Now a story pops up in 15 years or so and Squirrels kid is a highly rated recruit and apparently Squirrel has not been in the pic for a long time. Yeah, then I am gonna criticize
