Spurrier questions Alabama kick tactics

I disagree strongly. It is outside the normal infractions that occur in a game. It is a specific technique used to gain an advantage.

It's equivalent to corking a bat. Clearly a no no. It's an attempt to get around the rules rather than simply breaking a rule (e.g. holding) in a game.

Not according to the NCAA rule book.

Wanna bet you won't see any tape on the field this weekend? lol

No tape for sure, and the holder and kicker will have this in their heads. Could affect the concentration.
I compare it to improving your lie in the rough--ie--setting your ball on a clump of grass in the hardpan. Cheating. Bammer's been doing that since PBB.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Premeditated rule breaking, mens rea if you will, is a far cry from inadvertent penalties or things that happen in the heat of battle.

So premedicated is what you have a problem with not the rule itself. So if the Vols DB coach tells his players to grab Julio's jersey everytime they get beat or something like that then I guess that is premedicated and should be treated the way you want to treat the Tide.

wow this is really tough for you huh?

Premedicating is only cheating if the drugs involved are banned or illegal.

that answers a few questions...

Meaning? You think I'm on drugs or something. Sorry, in my field we use the term premedicate often and someone had just asked me a question about it while I was sitting in my office and it was on my mind. Maybe that will answer the questions you had. Can't we be a little more mature guys. I know I'm a Bama fan and wanting to defend my team but come on with the juvenile comments.

I honestly believe that UT must have the most hate-filled, inferiority complex-ridden, hypocritical, and naive fan base in all of college football.

Nobody at Bama denies that we've had our problems with the NCAA, but we've paid for them. UT has had their own well-documented episodes of breaking the rules, but what kind of penalties have you paid? None that I can see. So, that somehow makes you above those of us who did get caught.

Do you think that perhaps the decades of Bama beating up on the SEC might have fostered enough hate from other teams that they pay more attention to Bama and are more likely to turn them in? Would anybody take the time to see if Vanderbilt had paid their 3* defensive end? Probably not.

I'm not saying it's ok to cheat. I'm just saying some teams are more likely to be scrutinized or turned in. If you think UT hasn't done just as much wrong, you're very naive.

I know all of you have made up your mind, and are just formulating your arguments as you read this instead of actually thinking about what I'm saying. I know that. I have biases too. I don't hate the entire UT football program because of it though. I think you have a childish coach, and a lot of small-minded fans, but I don't have a problem with your program as a whole. Most of your fans are even ok when they don't have the internet to hide behind.

As far as this piece of tape........ unless your team has never gotten away with a hold then you all should just calm down.

I don't blame fulmer for us getting in trouble with the NCAA. I think he's a hypocritical snitch, but I'm not blaming him for our problems with the NCAA.

What is ridiculous is that any time any tiny little thing comes up about Bama, you morons run with it like it's something major. The truth is every program out there, including UT, has had shady stuff happening through stupid boosters or ignorant bookstore clerks or whatever. We've paid for those things dearly at Bama, and we should have, but for you to act like those things have never happened with your own program is either naive or hypocritical.

Assuming you are correct and that all programs cheat equally, it must be a real bummer to realize that you support the program with the most stupid people in the country. The proof is in the getting caught more than anyone else.

Yeah it is. How many people did you have in jail a couple of years ago?

See if you can get a little piece of tape to sit on top of grass well enough to put a ball on during a play. He was obviously just using it as a marker of some sort.

Then it is still illegal.

"Rule 6-3(d) states that 'any device or material used to mark the spot of a scrimmage place kick or elevate the ball makes the kick illegal.'"

Don't even pretend to be a physician/dentist or even in the medical field. Meth lab possibly, medicine I doubt it.

Nothing is going to be done. Just take solace in the fact that they can't do it anymore. I applaud Spurrier for bringing this to the NCAA.

It's nice of Spurrier to get inside the Alabama place kicker's head right before we play the Tide.

There is no way to prove it to you and I really don't care if you believe or not but I am a dentist and I was actually educated at the UTHSC in Memphis, thank you for my dental training TN and for that matter thanks for undergrad at Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, TN also. I really like that state of TN (except for Memphis which is absolutely terrible). Your state is quite beautiful and I've got some great UT fan friends from dental school but I really despise those UT fans that are small-minded and ignorant (small majority of you actually) but for that matter I don't like the ones like that that are rooting for the Tide either.

You're such crybabies. Do you think a kicker would be doing something as blatant and putting a piece of tape down on the field if he thought it was against the rules? I honestly can't think of how it would be an advantage anyway. The "sitting on top of the grass" is a ridiculous argument. He's using it as a marker, obviously, but I'm pretty sure he knows where the ball goes anyway.

"Any device or material used to mark the spot of a scrimmage place kick or elevate the ball makes the kick illegal."

The penalty is "illegal kick" and is five yards from the previous spot.

It seems pretty obvious to me that regardless of why the tape is there, it is illegal according to the rule.

If it's not such a big deal, then why is this thread filled with Bammers defending the action?

Gee wiz, you mean it's not legal? Thanks for solving that mystery. Since you have the rule book open, is it legal to grab someone's jersey and hold them so they can't get to the QB? I've been thinking that would be a good way to cut down on sacks.
