Spurrier on Fulmer speculation

Spurrier is old school in that respect. He might trade barbs with another in the media, but not a chance in Hell of criticism when another coach's job is on the line.

Fulmer certainly wouldn't comment if Spurrier was in the same position. The coaching profession is still a pretty tight knit fraternity.

I agree. In the end he is not going to say something directly against another coach. Maybe against another team but probably not against the coach.

Plus many of the articles about the 2 have said they are friends. I think any coach would keep his comments to himself since you never know when it's your time.

Fulmer and Spurrier have been known to play golf together in the off season...I mean seriously, It's a game.

That really is true. I've never heard a coach who was currently employed say much about the job status of another coach.

Did we expect him to comment on a situation he knows nothing about?? Much like we do?

I wouldnt expect Spurrier to take a cheap shot when the man is down.
Back in the day when he was taking his shots UT was only loosing a couple games/ year

Spurrier is a fair man. annoying? yes, but I would never expect him to kick a coach when he's down.

I remember back in 1998, Spurrier had kind words for us before the NCG.

On the record. Off the record, coaches gossip like the characters on Desperate Housewives.

Exactly correct...and you ought to hear the wives. Unbelievable how much they talk about that stuff.

Incidentally, I remember a Sports Illustrated article in the late 90s that interviewed SEC coaches anonymously. There were several that openly discussed that Tennessee - even then - was one of the easiest teams to coach against but that they had the best players and got by on talent. I wish I could find the article to reference it but I remember it plainly.

I'd like to take a look at that. You'd think we would actually have a coach with the money we spend and not just a solid recruiter. He's even falling behind in that aspect of the game the past few years.

"Go through any more crap"? Spurrier and these coaches are in a fantasy world!! They make $2-$4 million for coaching football a few months, play golf the rest of the year, and they are having to "go through crap?" Hey Steve, try getting a real job where you have to work every day.

These coaches work more days and hours than just about anyone in the country. You would be shocked at the amount of time they spend doing their job.

I think they do work everyday. I've heard that most College coaches put in 12+ hours a day during the season, then they have to hit the recruiting trail.

Add that to the pressure they are under to WIN and I bet you most people don't experience that type of work at a "real job".

And, football is a business, why do you think we just canned Fulmer?
