I am convinced he knew he was gonna get his azz handed to him by us later that season and that fact played large in his decision to just quit before it DID happen. I respect him...but i thought that was a cowardly move by him and a smear on an otherwise stellar college coaching career.

True every word. Spurrier has no class. Never been humbled; so he QUIT. He needed that azz whipped one good time by DAD or some tough dude. HUMILITY would have cured that smartazz.

Steve Spurrier cracks me up. I know as a Vol fan I’m probably not supposed to like him, but I can’t help it - love the guy! Those Heisman House commercials he was in were hilarious. 😂😂😂😂😂

Agree. Hated losing to him in the 90s with Florida but he is funny and was a great coach. Sometimes I actually wished he was our coach in the 90s, especially with Peyton. I always felt like Fulmer was way too conservative. Spurrier really put both Florida and USC on the map. Prior to him both schools were pretty mediocre.

I respect Spurrier as a rival combatant....as well as his aggressive style of offense when he was a coach...but man that guy is a d!ck. When he was introduced at last night's game he was booed heartily...and responded by doing the Gator chomp. The Johnson Tennessee native has always held a grudge for not heavily recruiting him. We lost more than we won vs Spurrier...but some of our wins were very sweet. Like his last game as coach of the Gators..at home at the Swamp. I think we won 34-31 or something? What a great night that was. Then we beat him at South Carolina as well. Overall he got the best of us....but we didn't lay down and be total patsies vs his teams either.

I didn't see that as being a dick. I honestly found it hilarious. The fans love to hate Spurrier and he loves the attention. I loved every second of it.

The guy was ahead of his time in the 90's and spanked pretty much everyone. However, I did not have any respect for him because of his penchant for bad-mouthing people publicly, and specifically Philip Fulmer about his weight publicly. He just couldn't turn down the opportunity to get in a cheap shot verbally.

Sounds like my kind of guy. I too like to rib people, rib them again and again. Take the meat off them and leave them a bone to pick. Especially folks with no sense of human, humor, reject the truth, who laugh at others but can't laugh at themselves. They're so much fun when you make them mad. Sometimes I even rib myself.

I used to hate him, but I don't find that fun anymore, especially after I found out he voted for Peyton for the Heisman. He used to make fun of Peyton and that annoyed me. I had a brother who resembled him, even down to the body language and facial expressions. After my brother died, I got a kick out of watching him. Sure couldn't hate him anymore.
