Spurrier gonna Spurrier

I'd bet money that matters you're wrong.

And that makes my heart smile a little. Things thaw over time. Nobody hated Peyton Manning more than me when he played for UT and his first several years after in the NFL.

But I find the guy hilarious now, a genuinely good dude. And I also appreciate the fact that he’s among the greatest QBs to ever lace them up.

Oh, don’t get your reptile tail a swinging, my comment was purely in the direction, that I hate to see Spurrier as he is now. Much easier to hate in earlier times. No rudeness here, but still hate gators, always will.

Only reason to "hate" Spurrier was because of him whipping our ass. The second he left Florida I loved the dude.

Why you hate on Peyton, Gums?

Wonder if he’ll quit this job, like he has two others, if Tennessee (Memphis) beats that ass

The good thing is that he is 2-0. Were he 0-2, he would quit on his team in mid-season. He'll never live that down.

I know the vast majority here hate his guts, but he’s a national treasure in the eyes of Florida fans, and many college football fan
I actually had developed a lot of grudging respect for him until he quit in the middle of the year his last year at Sakerlina. That was a real butch move, with an "i".

He is human. Unlike Saban. Spurrier laughs, screams, smiles, grimaces. Like a human being.

I’d buy the guy a beer in a heartbeat and talk UT UF in the 90s. I suspect he’d have me lmao in no time.

He seems to be having a blast with this Orlando AAF job. He’s having a hard time getting around between the bad back and bad knee, but he’s having fun and still coaching up some pretty damn good football.

Like him or not, he is a great football coach in my opinion.

I Hate his gator guts but there is no question I college football is poorer with him not in it and I miss the rivalry between he and Phil even if he mostly got the better of us.

Spurrier quit on SC.

I and many others have quit jobs we got tired of, found no longer rewarding, the culture detrimental to doing the job well, and etc. Do any of these fit the Spurrier quitting? Dunno, and ain't my business. What I said in my post was that the UT threw away its chance to have Spurrier at the UT. First as a player, second as a coach. Might have worked out well for us but Bowden pretty much insulted him as well as refusing to adjust the Vols playing style to fit the changes happening in college ball at the time. Namely the rise of the passing game.

I knew Spurrier as a kid. He wanted to play at UT. He loved UT. BUT...he was a QB and UT was still committed to the single wing. So, Knoxville's postmaster (Edwin Graves) recruited Steve to play for his brother (Ray Graves) at Florida. Both Graves played for Neyland.

Spurrier's pokes at the Vols run much deeper than ever losing to them.

Spurrier is a great coach and a great guy, I've had the honor to speak with him a ton over the years and honestly he had nothing but respectful comments about UT, his teams vs Fulmer were absolutely gems to be a part of. Some say they hate or despise him, I reserve hatred to people that have done me or my family wrong not a rival team or coach, however I strongly strongly dislike, Bama, Florida, Georgia and Vandy

All I know about him (aside from his coaching career) is what I know from my cousin, who was some kind of standby co-pilot for the plane Spurrier used during his tenure at SC. My cousin said it'd sometimes be a year or more between times he'd fill in, and after the first time he met Spurrier the guy never forgot my cousin's name (or his kids' names, for that matter). To me that says a bit about what kind of person he is when he's not wearing the headset.
