Spurrier on Finebum today didn’t hesitate with “Leacher” when asked who he liked for Vols next Coach

I have no idea what Spurrier would know about our HC job, if anything he was probably saying that because VolNation is crazy as hell and so is Leach.

Leach is an elite football coach. Just have to ensure he gets enough talent to compete with the SEC big boys, and I don't think that'd be an issue with the right staff.

I will ask the same question I asked about some of these other coaches.

What makes folks (including Currie) think that Leach would consider TN a better job than where he is? He's doing wonders at Wash. State.

No, Spurrier called his offense "Fun n' Gun", Like Glanviile called his "Run and Shoot" and Leach is an "Air Raid" guy. Most of which all comes from Tiger Ellison and Mouse Davis as I explained in detail in the final post on the previous page of this thread.

Sorry, wrong about which thread, so many it's confusing, I'll just copy/paste here.

The subject was achieving balance between the run and the pass game...

Okay, that's a fair question.

The system is known as air raid. He and Hal Mumme got into cahoots together, culminating their allegiance while at UK.

In the modern era, they sort of get credit for it, but it's actually older than that.

Glenn "Tiger Ellison", wrote a book in 1965, after employing it even earlier called, Run And Shoot Football - The Now Attack.

Another guy, Darrell "Mouse" Davis had a big impact around 1975 at Portland State.

Anyway, many of the principles, the option route, gangster, wide splits, including The Lonesome Polecat which looks like what you see on special teams, PAT called today "The Swinging Gate".

All of these things that guys like Don Coryell, Jerry Glanville, etc..from the NFL take credit for...just not true. Even Bill Walsh was borrowing these principles while calling the spread, or run and shoot a gimmick.

So, when we talk about being balanced, in this kind of offense, a swing pass, a shuttle pass (also known as the Utah Pass, LaVelle Edwards (BYU) that Urban Myers uses almost every game btw), a screen pass, a flat pass...all to the backs are all high percentage pass plays, viewed as a run play.

So let's see.

Jamal Morrow, the lead back at WSU this season has 86 carries for 522 Yards (6.1 Yds./Att.), 4 RTD, He has 56 receptions, for 479 Yards (8.6 Yds./Rec.) and 5 TD's.

In other words, he has 1001 yards from Scrimmage.
The other back has 798 yards from scrimmage, almost 1800 yards from 2 backs.

John Kelly had 1099 yards from scrimmage but he ran it 189 times, 103 MORE carries than Morrow for a 4.1 yd. average and 9 TD's, all rushing. One took a pounding to get his 9 TD's the other, not so much.

Be glad to discuss this all night because my boys won a State Championship tonight and I ain't got to work tomorrow!

Resources and the ability to recruit to a place that is not in the middle of nowhere. Think Mullen leaving Starkville for Gainesville.

Spurrier was quoted at one time that he really liked Leach and that his offense was fun to watch. I think it was back when he was coming back from the NFL or around that time. Normally I'd say Spurrier is trying to troll VN but I don't think that is the case here.
