I listened to VolCalls last night and they talked to Fulmer and he said that it's been a very up tempo spring. Breaking the huddle a lot earlier and they have been snapping the ball with about 15 seconds left on the play clock. John Crompton did a great job in the game Saturday throw 3 TD's 0 INT's and ran for a TD in his first game as a Vol. Peyton and Eli Manning have been helping the coaching staff out aswell. Coach Cut. said they will be running a lot of 5 WR sets and I heard they might redshirt Jayson Swain this year because he's about 15 pounds over weight and they want their WR's to me a lot smaller and faster. They say that Lucas Taylor and Josh Briscoe will be big parts in this year's season :D

Thanks. This is all sounds very promising. Everything I read from Cutcliffe sounds very positive, making needed changes, studying the films, etc.

From UTSports.com, the D stepped up today. Fulmer actually called the offensive play "embarassing." He also questioned the offense's intensity. Both sound concerning, especially since that's about how we'd describe last year's offense. He did say that we ran the ball well.

Didn't somebody mention before practice started that Swain might redshirt because of an injury?

Swain redshirting because of 15 pounds? Has to be more to it than that....

4 days on a good diet w fb practice would cure that in quick fashion.

From this morning's Tennessean..
Healthy competition: Marvin Mitchell, the only senior in a linebacking corps that's looking to replace all three starters this year, said the competitive attitude between the offense and defense is "making us better as a football team."

But Mitchell had a few light-hearted jabs for the offense in response to fullback Cory Anderson, who said earlier that the offense would finally step to the forefront this spring after watching the defense dominate the last few years.

"They bring new coaches in here and think it's going to be something different," Mitchell said. "I'm looking at the offense and I see Peyton and Eli (Manning) in the quarterback meeting. So, you know, I'm going to take the challenge, work hard and try to compete each time and stop these guys."

Did not know the brothers Manning had been around. Soak it up Eric, while you can.

Fulmer seems pretty hot in the whole article, PRACTICE, a sudden switch after speaking positively for most of the early practices.

utsports says Fulmer was impressed with the tempo of the defense and that the offense wasnt "stepping up to the challenge".

apparnetly the offense played terrible in the mini-scrimmage they had today. They were playing much like last year, practice ran over due to the coaches being mad about their performence. The defense also had to run sprints for bad play near the end.
