I am not either, that's what I am saying. The VNation has realistic Vol fans. Knox News and Rocky Top News boards, if you say anything negative, then you are a Negga Vol.

I guess in that case I am a Negga Vol. :good!:

Out of curiosity, any of you guys know either:

1) what the passing yards were per play in '06, as opposed to just overall? Wondering if you ran a bunch more plays. Or, heck, even less plays. Just curious. Better yet, do you know runs versus passe attempts? That would be interesting.

2) what the passing yard comparison has been over, say, the last five years? Wondering if that stat is available.

Including the bowl game for each team:

UT averaged 8.28 yards per pass attempt, and 12.97 yards per pass completion

UF averaged 8.28 yards per pass attempt, and 12.96 yards per pass completion

Just reinforces how bad UT's defense was last year.

The key to our offense being productive is going to be the performance of our O-line. If they don't man up, watching our offense is going to be very depressing... while I think a couple of our WRs will be nice players, I don't think we can count on the production we had last year.

The thought of an average passing game plus a mediocre running game, ala 2006, is frightening.

If they can give EA time we will be a great team!

Lets hope they can give him time, AND blow people off the line of scrimmage.

That would be nice for a change. They have to get that Jimmy Ray Stevens crap out of them. HIT SOMEBODY, they running game has to improve.:banghead2:

Jimmy Ray was a pretty sorry run blocking coach. Seems like his philosophy was just to fatten up the line so they'd take up so much space you couldn't get to the QB. Additionally, our guys were getting so big they became immobile, and the run blocking suffered. He didn't teach good run blocking at Florida either... we've should have known before hiring him. That hire really hurt our o-line.

My own observation is that the trend toward heft in the line was a direct result of the annhilation we suffered at the hands of Nebraska in the bowl game(I have no direct recall of years) some years back. Being outmuscled like that had everyone screaming to know why our kids weren't big enough to play with the corn fed boys. Well, clearly, as relates to the conference in which we play, size ain't everything.

I suppose there are good reasons to dump on Jimmy Ray, the size of the line is not one of them I don't think...

They just weren't mean enough under JRS. CPF has been preaching Physicality, but we didn't see it last year.

Last year we didn't see any depth, and we had to replace 3 starters from an already mediocre offensive line. It's no wonder they got worse. The left tackle position is going to be absolutely crucial as is Eric Young getting healthy: he is the anchor of the line this year.

I agree... I wouuld always take a strong running game over a strong passing game (if you have to choose) because when you have a strong running game it just feels like you are going to win by wearing the other team down. A strong passing game always feels like you might lose because you give the other team time to get back in the game...

If you want to have victory, you have to grab it by its haunches and you gotta hump it into submission.

Simple as that.

I've called the Humane Society and they'll be knocking on your door in 10 minutes to confiscate any nervous pets that you might own.
