I am no insider so this is all based on what radios in Knoxville said then and now.
After 2007 season when Phillip Fulmer was looking for OC, Mike DeBord was rumored to be top candidate. Knoxville radios and sites talked about him being a strong candidate. I am not sure how many of you remember but it was said that DeBord wanted to move to spread (the one he ran in bowl game of 2007 to beat Gators) and that was the deal breaker. Fulmer hired Clawson who has a weird Clawfense variation that never worked.
Enter 2015, much of vol-nation is concerned that DeBord has no experience in spread etc.

Just a weird circle of life.

Edit: I think most of OPs are missing the point I am trying to make. I am not making argument for or against DeBord. All I am saying is back in 2007/8 he was not hired as he was 'so called spread' guy and today we are worried he doesn't know much about 'spread'.

Those crazy radios will say anything.

Well, you certainly sold me. After all, every situation and the variables involved are exactly alike.

Sometimes it's best to simply be the best plumber you can be. The move to AD is probably pretty tough.

Hey Volmandu.......pay absolutely no attention to the two jerks that like to make fun of someone. Clowns are all around. As a side note, Clawson might have had a better season if CPF not interferred with the play calling. It was a cluster F.

Lol I found a thread dating back to Jan of 2008. It says Debord and Loeffler in Knoxville on Tues to interview. First comment is by none other than Freak and it says "surely Debord is not interviewing for OC" lmao this really is coming full circle. BTW even when Debord was being mentioned in late 07/early 08, people didn't like the name. VN has a long history, feel free to search it. You can dig up some real gems.

VN thread mentioned above

Don't forget Crompton was QB. It took until the 4th quarter of the Auburn game his senior year to get him to not be a liability.

I've been gone all day, and have been wondering if we had any new DeBord threads.

I would LOVE to see Fulmer and DeBord in the circle of life drill.

Do they not look strikingly similar? I swear Phil could fill in for him most days and nobody would notice. Maybe Phil could work the OL heavy days and DeBord the QB heavy days.

So the point is that fans said "Don't hire Debord" and Fulmer felt the same.
How did that work out?

Spectacular. Great research.

I remember that OC search pretty well. Debord was certainly talked about as a candidate, but only in the sense of "would you take Debord if he brings Mallet with him?" I don't recall anyone ever suggestin we take Debord on his own merits. Even with Mallet, I recall most saying it wasn't a good idea.

Was this DeBords last interview for offensive coordinator before now? I know he said he has been very selective of the opportunities that have presented themselves but I don't know how much stock to put into that. It's possible he was semi retired and only would come back for a unique spot.
