Sports Animal?

Has anyone else noticed that they are finally coming to realize that a change is needed? I have listened to them on and off for a couple years now and everytime they got a fire Phil call they would normally kinda brush it off. Yesterday they had a guest on who spoke pretty freely that he thought they needed a change. They also sounded as if they thought that UT isn't getting it done due to poor coaching. They spoke a lot about not playing the key players in the right spot because of them being an underclassman. Just wondering if anyone else happened to notice the swing in views lately?

My question is, how could their views not swing? I can't even begin to fathom why we can't put up 300 yds a game. We are an embarrassment to UT football right now. It's not because lack of talent. That leaves only one other option.

The change that needs to come at the Sports Animal is a banning of the old man "Jim" from their airwaves. His next cogent call will be his first and he sounds like he's gargling gravel.

Their business suffers when the Volunteers perform badly. It is just like the rest of the Knoxville economy right now. Also, it looks like John Pennington is bringing a new perspective to the Animal. I like his show, but I can not stand to listen to the morning show with Doc. Thank God for Sirius in the mornings.

The morning show is awful, I think everyone can agree on that. They need Pennington and Will West in the morning and let Doc, Jeff, and Heather on the air during non-peak hours.

Chip Kain is usually very entertaining and he always knows what's going on with football since he's there everyday. Sometimes he can start controversies and tick people off, but that's what talk radio is about.

Like overnight when noboby is listening. That crew is just plain old baaaad.

BTW, whatever happened to small Mike? I know folks say he hangs out on the Basilo show but why does he not ever come onto the sports animal during the morning/afternoon/or night? He is kinda a celebrity whose rants in the past are now proving true.

The Sports Animal radio heads had to be supportive of Phil before, don't want to loose access. I agree they are jumpling ship now. The inevitable is finally at hand.

he got banned from the Animal for being being a dbag on the radio. now he's over on Basilio's show. you know what they say, birds of a feather...

he claims to be some dude who posts here too. and i claim to be the easter bunny.

the biggest annoyance i find with the sports animal is how mickey dearstone tries to argue with everyone, and then ends up contradicting himself while arguing his point..i personally cannot stand the guy... and i didn't like the fact they took jim rome off to add another hometown show...(don't get me wrong, i wasn't an avid jim rome fan, but listening to essentially the same show from 6am til 7pm is getting pretty old)... IMO dave hooker is the best broadcaster on 99.1. he is pretty funny, and i don't take him to be a homer for UT sports and the AD....he seems to drum up rumors and usually has some pretty good points...

Most people don't do that. They go to work and stuff.

I have only a few minutes in the morning and then the evening to listen at all. I'm glad there's usually a chance to listen to UT sports talk whenever I can tune in.

i don't do it non-stop..but when i am driving to and from the office, to lunch or out to visit clients, i have it on...its always the same topic, just different deejays.

I can understand that, but there was a time when the only time of the day I could listen, they'd be talking about NASCAR... made me want to drive off a bridge

I would hardly say that his rants are coming true. He claimed for years that the Lady Vols were "has beens" and that the game had passed Pat by -- it was right around the time when the Lady Vols won the National Championship 2 years ago that he dropped off the face of the earth on the Sports Animal.

I'm not sure if they finally stopped taking his calls or if he found another medium. He was so annoying that i would always turn the station when he called because I was so embarrassed for him.

I couldn't have said that better myself! I listen to 99.1 and 100.3 all day because of the job that I have. I'm at a CPU most of the day, and have a radio in my ear if I'm not on the phone or in a meeting.

Hooker is my favorite. They make me laugh out loud sometimes like Jim Rome.
