Sports Animal Saying Jim Schwartz Could be Candidate

Current Tennessee Titans DC. Saying that Chris Mortensen from ESPN will be reporting something Sunday on ESPN that would have people in Knoxville talking on Monday. Sports Animal is guessing that Schwartz will be the person Mortensen is referring to.

He would jump to the top of my favorites if I thought there was a chance of getting him, but I wouldn't expect him to have interest in any college job. He'll be a head coach in the NFL next year as long as the Titans don't choke the second half of this season.

Why wouldn't he have interest? Weis won 3 Superbowls and came to college. Money talks.

I don't expect UT to pay as good as a NFL head coach, and I think he gets multiple offers to head coach in the NFL next year. I think he and the DC for the Giants will be the top two sought after by the NFL for head coaching positions this offseason. Weiss came to college with no NFL head coaching options on the table.

Good point but Schwartz has no NFL owners lining up either and there is no guarantee there will be and if not i imagine UT will pay more than a DC in the NFL.

I can't disagree with you there. If he doesn't get a look in the NFL, I could see him jumping to college. His stock will be hotter at the end of this season than ever. John McClain mentioned last week that he expected Schwartz to have a good chance at the 49ers job. He said he didn't think Singletary would get it (he's only the interim coach right now), and he said Schwartz almost got it the last time it was open. He said Holgrem would be the only one who the 49ers would hire before Schwartz.

But Singletary talks out of his a** to his team. That alone should be enough to get him the HC position.:)

I would be interested to find out who he would hire as OC. Jim Schwartz is a TOUGH coach and great at game planning.

As a Titans fan, I can tell you that Schwartz will probably frustrate you some.

The titan's fans call him "statistical jim," (or chief red hat) because of his tendency to play the percentages. He is an avid chess player who got his Masters in Econ from Georgetown. This means he will play off on 3rd down alot, as he doesn't want to give up the first on a blitz.

Some Titans fans also criticize him saying that he is AMAZING when he has the right players in his scheme - like he has now, and like he had in 2000 and 2003, but when he doesn't, he still runs basically the same scheme, and it gets picked apart. He relies very heavily on pressure from the front 4, and very rarely blitzes his LBs. He will occasionally blitz them (especially on run blitzes) in the early downs, but very rarely on 3rd down. But if the DL can't consistently get pressure with the front 4, then his defense is not very good.

I don't think it would translate well into CFB. Unless you can just get a slew of really, really talented DLineman, I don't think it would work too well. Plus, most of his defensive players have been in his system for a while, so they know it inside and out, which helps immensely. In college, you don't really have time to do those kinds of things.

I don't think he will be the Vol HC, but if he was, you guys would be all over him the first time we give up a 3rd and long. However, he isn't as bad as Chavis is, where he will jump into the Prevent on every down once we have the lead.

Will he bring Princess Vespa to cheer and maybe Dark Helment for a DT. Certainly Yogurt will be calling the plays.

Stop that work order to repair the cancel the self destruct button!

Once again a huge waste of time. Thanks for letting everyone know that an NFL coach could or could not be a candidate for the UT job. So insightful.
