Ranking college football's top 25 quarterbacks for 2016 | Sporting News

9. Joshua Dobbs, Tennessee

Dobbs holds the keys to Tennessee’s hopes to win the SEC East for the first time since 2007. Dobbs is the best dual-threat quarterback in the nation’s toughest conference. He threw 15 TDs with just five interceptions and added 11 TDs rushing last season. He’s also a team leader. Now, for the true test: Can he help the Vols break that 11-game losing streak to Florida?

In D4H's defense, Dobbs didn't have a clean pocket for a significant amount of snaps in 2015. That can make all the difference. Look at Matt Leinart of USC. Everybody thought he was the stuff til he faced a pass rush and then what? Dobbs can put up Heisman-worthy numbers this year without possessing perfect accuracy.

The biggest thing helping Dobbs and the whole offense is going to be our stifling defense. He should have a surplus of opportunities.

I believe our improved O line, TE's and WR's will also help Dobbs a bunch this season.

NOW is the time for Dobbs and our O to show out in every game.

Our Dominant D will take care of the rest along with our Very Special Teams.

Team 120, working hard so we can scream...WE'RE BACK...VFL...GBO!!!

Plus experience is a huge factor. Sometimes the game just slows down for QBs heading into their final year and they're better able to take advantage of what the defense gives them despite the deficiencies in their game.

So in the top 25 there only 2 SEC QBs, Dobbs and Kelly. I can hear the "Talking Heads" now downing the SEC because of lack offense experience and it will be a down year. To me this is good for the Vols if Dobbs improves this year as much as he did between 2014 and 2015 Its gonna be something special. Also if Coach Jones and Debord let Dobbs be Dobbs. It seems to me after the Arkansas loss he was a much different player.

LOOKING FORWARD TO A GOOD YEAR> GBO

Only you believe this.

no, not so. Lord knows i've given D4H plenty of grief, but in his defense......Dobbs has a huge opportunity in front of him. i'd say Dobbs may have the highest ceiling this year, given the opponents we play, and running game backing him up.

we're on the radar enough this year where he doesn't have to take GIANT leaps to get at or near the top of any list really.

we just need the defense to be able to get off the field, and for him to get a little more accurate with the ball.

IF HE DOES THIS, and Shoop makes the kind of difference we think, then the sky's the limit.

it's just not done yet...so he's on these "fringe" lists, which i have no issue with.

Based on what? I love my team and my quarterback ... I am Vol through-and-through but I am realistic. He is not a top 5 quarterback but it was nice to see him crack top 10.

Based upon the fact that there are only 3 or 4 QB's on that list who are better than Dobbs.

1. Deshaun Watson
2. Baker Mayfield
3. Chad Kelly
4. Seth Russell
5. Joshua Dobbs

Would you really trade Dobbs for him?

I'm hoping that you're actually not this dumb.

Let me put it this way: I would rather have LF in Jones system as to have JD in Leach's system. In other words LF is 100 times the passer that Dobbs is, and Dobbs is 100 times the runner than LF is.

I want QB's that are proficient in the passing game, that is why you have these players called running backs, to run the ball.

Two things in this life I am not are, stupid, and incompetent, you will learn with age.

Well then you might want to consider rooting for another team cause that ain't happening anytime soon. Our coaching staff obviously prefers a different type of QB.

They chose Dobbs over a QB like Falk. They chose Jarrett Guarantano over Austin Kendall. And it looks right now that they prefer a QB like Emory Jones over Trevor Lawrence.

Whether you like it or not, the pattern is clear. Butch Jones prefers QBs like Dobbs over those like Falk.

Even though he plays in a system that highlights his passing ability, Falk is pretty legit.

I agree. Reminds me of a more polished Tyler bray. Moves well in the pocket. The kid has a great arm. Will probably be a mid to late first round pick with no set backs.
