Sporting News: Are Michigan, Tennessee worth the hype?

I loled. We wilted big time. 2015 was the easiest schedule Tennessee has had in over a decade. The SEC east resembled the ACC east. We have top 10 talent and lost 4 games. We folded like a house of cards. That preseason poll had us 25th based on realistic expectations of what we WOULD do, not what we SHOULD do. They knew Butch. Twas an utter failure.Hopefully, 2016 will be better with Shoop on board. Kudos to Butch for realizing it and making a change.

Smh. I'll give you the Florida loss being inexcusable, although their QB still needed roids. Butch needs to beat them badly next year. But really? A failure because we lost two close game to playoff teams and an Arkansas team that also beat Ole Miss and LSU on the road? Lol no. We did about as well as we could have reasonably been expected to do. Like it or not, we didn't have the full lineup of depth and experience needed to truly compete for championships. We will this coming year though.

Spot on. For years we've made much more of our late season 'runs' than warranted with claims "we play better later...we should play FL later...", ignoring the inarguable softness of the late schedule.

Jones knows a lot is riding on 2016, that anything short of Atlanta will be underachieving and not well-received.

I'm not sure VN can handle the hype but that's a good problem to have. :)

One game at a time keeping an eye on the prize.

GBO!!!

Exactly. I've always thought that playing Florida later would be a bad idea. We are likely to have more injuries later in the season. If we don't beat them when we normally play them, we probably wouldn't beat them later either.

The problem for us is....we could beat Alabama at home. We should debrain Florida at home just like Michigan did in their bowl game. But only one school/HC...Ole Miss and Freeze...have beaten Saban back to back. Maybe with a knew DC, unproven QB, no Derek "Snaggle Tooth" Henry, and IF we have all WRs healthy we can make it. And some SEC West help to keep Bama from Atlanta.

I think we end both steaks next year. We crush Florida, but lose to Bama in a close one. Go into to SECCG 11-1 and get revenge against Bama. We go into to playoff the 4 seed.

If the Vols learn how to put the game away vs. teams that matter dreams will come true. Play 60 with the petal to the metal.

I concur the pieces are in place to have a special team, however, I've seen other schools with similar predictions and hype and fall flat. Not saying UT will, but , you can't predict the future in College Football, its too subjective and no one takes into account how much the other teams improve. I predict UT will be in every game, the one who makes the fewest mistakes wins............who said that?

Go Vols! :rock::rock::rock::rock:

How nice is it going to be WHEN we absolutely crush Florida next year? The guys are going to bring a over a decade of Vol rage into the game with them (fueled in part by articles like this).

Any win over Florida would be acceptable. I'd be dancing in the streets if Tennessee beat Florida 24-21.

Respectfully disagree. We had depth, although young. Redshirt saving aside, Jancek didn't use enough guys. He didn't want to risk a big play. There were true freshman all over the field in the natty game on both sides. Not counting the 21 year old Freshman Ridley.
This year our depth will be that much better. Can't wait!!

Easiest schedule in over a decade-- not even close! We're the only team in the country that played two final four playoff teams and were leading them both in the final minute. Yes, we coulda shoulda woulda been a Top 10 team-- possibly even a playoff team-- if we had closed out those games like we absolutely should have, but that's due to elite talent... not an easy schedule.

Sports media and Michigan homers conveniently forget that Michigan played Florida w a CB at QB, and not a 5* doping dual threat.

And Michigan was favored by only 3.
