Split Allegiances

The most annoying thing in the world to me are people who cheer for Tennessee in football and Kentucky in basketball. It's ridiculous to think you can cheer for rivals in opposite sports, but some people do it because they always want to cheer for the better team. The other thing that disgusts me is the number of Alabama fans and Florida fans walking around Knoxville. They try and say they've been fans for a while, but it's pretty obvious you just like them cause they're winning when I can name more players for the teams than you can and i hate their a$$es.

My mother went to Kentucky so I cheer for them when not playing my Vols. On game day between us and them I'm on the phone with Mom talking smack. Does this make me a bad son?
She also went to UT for Grad school so she's a lady Vols season ticket holder.
I'm always on her case to put her undergraduate degree in the back of the closet.

Even if I didn't like Duke I still wouldn't cheer for Tennessee basketball because I don't care for it. Never have. I like Tennessee football. I'm not from Tennessee, I'm not am alum, and I didn't follow Tennessee when I was young. I just fell in love with UT football when I was a teenager and began to appreciate college football more.

I don't get it. Where did you go to school?

Because I spit hot fire

I went to a public Division II school in Pennsylvania. I grew up not far from PSU so if I chose my allegiance by geography then I should've grew up a Nittany Lion. Fortunately for me, I can't stand their teams or fans. My family is also anti-PSU and my dad has always been a Vol fan. I didn't grow up one though because I didn't really appreciate college football until I was older. As the years went by and I started to follow college football more closely, UT grew on me. When we came back and beat LSU in 2005 I never looked at another college football team again.

What burns me up, are these so called Alabama fans that live in Tennessee with no ties to Bama, period. They run around wearing Bama attire or saying roll tide. You ask them, did you go to school there? No. Well, do you have family there? No. Have you ever lived there? No. Well, have you ever even been there? No. Seriously, that is just retarded. These people are band wagon fans and they just wanna be different than everyone else. Makes them look stupid, IMO.

memphis basketball... ut football... thats the way ive always been and always will be. my heart is fully committed to both. dont need someone to tell me im not a true fan IN THEIR BOOK for this reason. i know where i stand with my fanhood... i dont think it should matter as long as we all hate bama

ps. if you live in tennessee and cheer for alabama... go the hell back to bama. we dont need you here.

So it's dads fault. I kid.
I freely admit I don't understand how people cheer for a school they did not attend. I personally will watch the NFL, NBA, and other college sports. But nothing gets my butterflies going, like I'm ready to hit somebody, like the boys (and girls) in orange. It can be waterpolo and it doesn't matter. Those are my people. I took some classes at UTchattanooga during undergraduate work. Often the same semester as I had classes in Knoxville so I follow them as well. Their wrestling team is bad ass!!
I just don't think I could have the same love for a team I was not connected to.
I guess I'm not really questioning you so much as sayin I don't understand your point of view.

Growing up in the state helps. I went to a school without a football team (although I'm now in grad school at UNC). Not that it would've mattered. I was all Vol long before time for college.

Will you not feel the need to cheer for UNC over TN?

What is up with all the split allegiances that I am seeing now, even on VN?

People claiming to be UT fans, but have other teams clothing and attire.

Either you bleed orange or you dont. None of this
"I love UT, but I also like other teams that are winning" BS.

Get your priorities straight. UT, one and only

You want these players to be all vol, vfls. You want them to bleed orange, yet you cant make up your minds what frickin team you want to route for.

WTF?

GBO or go home

I totally agree I have too many friends and co-workers that if it is a different sport, they like a different team. Constitutes as a BAND WAGON if you ask me! Either you are "ALL IN" or your a Band Wagon......
