Are these the two to get UT back to superior play at linebacker? It seems Spillman was playing a little more each game before the AC injury . . . But it has to help his progression to get all of the playing time he got last night. He was all over the field.

Perlotte (small sample size I know) seems to be a good tackler (something this defense lacks) and he had several big hits last night.

I am assuming AC is back for his senior year? If so, those 3 could form a really solid trio?

Fair assessment. Harmon played last night.
Spillman had 15 tackles. But our DBs bad play over shadowed that.

So did our DT play. Kentucky oline as winning
1 vs 1 on the line of scrimmage. Zero gap control by our DTs.

Perlotte is long and very quick. He also shows some leadership skills telling Dominic Bailey to chill out and not get a penalty.

Perlotte is quick and seems to have a high motor. Whatever else you may say about our LBs, Perlotte, Spillman, and Power T play with fire.

Edit: I didn't mention AC because he was out last night and seems more like the cool-headed field general of the group.

Spillman and Perlotte are going to make mistakes. You have to live with some of that from young players. I think their speed is a greater asset to mitigate some of those mistakes. Give them another year or 2 of experience, and they will be a dangerous duo.

Carter would be a 4th-5th rounder at best if he left after this year. He needs another year of development.
Yep Carter rated as the lowest grade on PFF vs Bama. I didn't go back and watch but his grade was dismal sometimes those PFF go above my eye test.

They have more talent than the starters and they need to get the experience. They will make a mistake or two, but their ability to make plays is worth gaining the experience. n Play them and get the defense off the field. I would bet having them on the field , we will give up fewer points they we are giving up now.

At least when they make a mistake, they both fly to the football.

Telander a mistake, goes the wrong way and then is too slow to make up for before it's 15 yards down the field.
