Spend the Dang Money

if they screw up this athletic director hire it is very likely some of the big booster funding will go on the shelf for a while. They are getting pretty tired of the constant lack of leadership.

they better escalate the AD hire. people want it done and think it is ridiculous that we are almost 6 months out without an AD

They **** around and lose that money and you'll see things happen.. Some of those stuff shirt academics will be looking for real jobs..

Just a thought, but is Harbough and assistants worth twice as much salary as CBJ and assistants. Harbough won 1 more game than Butch, didn't make the conf championship, lost to his biggest rival, and lost his bowl game. Spending money does not guarantee success. I will mention again, in 2015 Tenn made the 2nd most money in D1 football. Making money is the administration's job. Athletic championships are just the icing on the cake. This is my business side of looking at things. My fan side wants 15-0 results

Harbaugh a clown. Big game loser.
Michigan paying him more than Meyer and saban.
The last two years, we paid Butch $416,000 per win. Michigan: $900,000.
Butch is a fine man and good enough, provided he has top position coaches.
Spend the dang money.!

With as much tradition, money, fan base, and talent that Tennessee has and is surrounded by...I find it odd that we can never get a home run hire. Weak teams even pull more accomplished staff than we can. I'm not just saying this as we will probably hire within but because of all of our previous hires. Dooley, Kiffin, Butch, etc.

You could make the argument that UT wasn't in it's most marketable state after Kiffin but now, we are on the edge of being a contender in the SEC which is ultimately a contender in the CFP. How come we can't hire a sure thing or someone with a great track record?

It either leans to Butch and/or leadership. Someone is not willing to fork out the money or Butch is micromanaging. Then again, it could be both.

Or maybe because he'd shown improvement every year and had helped bring the finances BACK by winning?

He got a raise and extension after going 6-6 in 2014, at that point his agent spewed a bunch of Michigan bs. Was not extended after the 2015 or 2016 season. Try again reader, try again.

UTAD needs to place coin jars across Knoxville and surrounding communities so we can donate our spare change for coaching or coordinator changes. I'd be keen on sliding a 20$ bill in if it's a name I really liked. Lol

UT is by no means a lower tier SEC school. Just stop.

This century says otherwise! No one cares about the 1900's any more.

Bama, UF, UGA, Auburn, LSU, Mizzou, & USC have all been to the SEC CG game since UT's been there.

Exactly. Do you remember the panic when many on here thought Butch would leave for Michigan? :loco: PLEASE!

That had about as much chance of happening as Fulmer going to the Carolina Panthers...which he parlayed into a nice extension/raise.

I think you had mentioned they were wanting to wait until Davenport was here full time which would be February.

My question is why would it take that long for her to get here? She was approved on Dec. 15th iirc, so she has had plenty of time to move imo.

If having an AD was a priority with BOT and DePietro they could have told Cheek who they wanted in and tell Hart he could exit

Seriously this time 4 years ago the UTAD was in serious trouble. Things are better now financially but this article clearly shows how bad it was.

Tennessee athletic department mired in $200 million debt | NCAA Football | Sporting News

Some of you seem to think there is money just lying around to pay buyouts of coaches and spend twice as much as that (... which it would take ...) to secure your so called flavor of the day "elite coach".

Unless all who support the department plan to donate their entire salary for several years - UTAD can't continue to support the cycle (fire, pay buyout, hire new coach, fire, pay buyout, hire new coach ..... ).

There is money laying around. One can easily say back then that AD was so low in reserves because we were putting slop on the field of play. Mal Moore got folks on board to pony up in order to go out hire a big name. No reason at all we can't do the same.

Butch needs to make the right decision and hire Derek Dooley as OC. He loves Tn, coached in the NFL, and worked with elite talent like dez Bryant

You do realize this is not just about "moving.

These are NOT 2 week notice type jobs. Jobs at this level, unless it a situation of someone getting fired or quitting on a moments notice have longer transition periods allowing the person to help with the transition at the place they are leaving.

I know it is not just about moving, but she is needed here too, so still too long imo.

Same reason some coaches do not coach bowl game, but go to new job.

You can send in as much as you want to the athletic department on donations, there's no limit and feel free to send all your paycheck in to help the cause

Lol yea it goes right into the pockets of the uncommitted admin. Or to the brick and mortar. They know how football crazy the fans are and easy to just give their hard earned $ away on false promises

Just read this thread. I have a bunch of questions and a few comments, but I'm sure it would be unproductive.

One question that kept popping in my mind is " how do you know that"? And most of the time it was while reading a comment on "UT's money"... Is it tight or just laying around? And how do you know?

We have no idea what his agent's tactics are. We make up some good stuff tho! :eek:k:

Not an established coach available thats a good "fit" at Tennessee? Oh my God...

Name one. Let me help you out with Gruden is a pipe dream that is never leaving ESPN for a coaching job. He's also been out of coaching for a decade.

Chip is a lazy recruiter, and needs to the right situation to be successful. This isn't it.

My pick is Philip Montgomery, but that isn't flashy enough for you I'm sure.
