Speeding Ticket - Please Help

I wouldn't get a lawyer. Just gonna be an added expense on top of the ticket you'll have to pay. Going 23 over and telling the story you just told, you will still have to pay the ticket. It sucks, but lesson learned the hard way.

How far away is the court date? Sometimes they're not scheduled for a month or two in the future, so at least that would give you a little time to try to put the money together.

It will get reduced if he shows up guaranteed. How much who knows.

November 28th. There's no money to be putting together. I have so much debt right now and I am lucky to make it a month and have $5 left over.

Part time job until the ticket is paid off? The court might do a payment plan. It couldn't hurt to ask.

If you do nothing, they will suspend your license.

Or I have known them to offer community service but that doesn't seem to be an option here.

Or figure out a way to keep the arresting officer from showing up for the court date & it'll be dismissed automatically.

That is a thought. The judge might allow him to do his service in Orlando. Orlando would report back to SC. I've heard of that happening.

In your situation calling a lawyer might be a good idea.

Then you gotta factor in the travel getting to court, paying your attorney, lost time at school/work and hoping they reduce the ticket by more than what you just spent on all that stuff. Not a fun situation to be in OP

He won't need an attorney. If he goes to court the magistrate will come out & ask if anybody wants a jury trial. If you do it will be at a later date. The magistrate will then turn it over to the arresting officer who will call each individual off to the side & offer a reduced plea. If you accept you pay & leave. If you don't you plead your case to the magistrate. If the OP has a clean record & pleads his case chances are he will get a significant reduction. Maybe too fast for conditions which is probably less than $100. Best case he gets it dismissed. Worst case will be less than $600.

You would have to do this multiple times. The judge would keep issuing continuances until they officer showed up.

I did community service in Connecticut for an incident in Colorado, though I had an attorney there to handle the various details involved.

Yep. The judge issued a couple of continuances because the officers were not there on my court date.

For traffic court? I've known of the officer being 5 minutes late & the judge dismissed everybody's that officer had cited & scheduled at that time.

That's pretty rare. I interned in a rock hill, sc municipal court for 2 years, if a defendant wants to talk about their case then it will be continued until the cop is available. They can still work out a deal or be found guitly without a cop even being there. Also tickets are not always reduced, but in his case it is likely.

To the op, call the court and see if that court has a solicitor, if so try and talk about a deal with him.

Attorney is another smart choice to get it knocked down.
