Everyone knows our roster has gotten bigger to the point of at least looking like a SEC team.

Where do the Vols show increased speed this year?

Our WRs are a lot faster than last years group. Hyatt and Holiday along with Gibbs and Jones should be speed upgrades over last years group.

Our LBs are a lot more athletic then when this staff arrived. Crouch, Henry T and Banks are all very athletic.

Hyatt is a speed upgrade on any team in the country. He will be the fastest guy on the field no matter who we are playing.

^^^ this. Laser timed 4.31 forty.

Let's not forget Holliday at 4.38 though and others as well. Bigtime upgrade at speed at skill positions across the board. We haven't arrived yet...but we actually have a roster full of big and fast kids like few others have. Still a slight talent deficit with Bama and UGA ...but we should be as good and deep as anyone in the country outside the top 5 or so. CJP building his roster from the trenches out...love it. Go Vols

P.S. If we can get middle of the pack QB play this year...in terms of passing, TDs, and not throwing picks or taking stupid sacks....qe should win 7 out of 10. We could have won 10 games last year counting the bowl if we didn't have a clown show at the most important position on the field...

If I'm not mistaken, 4.38 was Holiday's slowest time of three sprints by a good bit.

I'll echo what others have said about our WR corps. Going to be tough for opposing DB's to cover all that speed. Should make them play back a couple of steps which will help the run game and open up underneath routes.

As far as our defensive backfield, there are several guys that are burners back there. Thompson has very good speed. Flowers has excellent speed. Key Lawrence has elite top end speed.

This....All that speed wont matter if the balls are thrown behind them or late.

During the combine I was a little surprised by how slow our WR ran the 40, and I know that's not the telltale sign of good receivers but it will be nice to see some separation and not just out jumping the DB's.
Also, CJC offense thrives with good WR play and a lot of that is built around his philosophy and positioning.

So sayeth BOZO.
You had a good thread going until the PS BS. SLIGHT talent deficit,? you definitely don't follow recruiting. Here's a little quiz for you. SEC 14 team/individual stats. Which would you rather have?
13th, 13th, 12th

3rd, 8th, 6th
The first line is Rushing Stats, good RBs and were ranked near the bottom. YPC 4.07, fewest rushing TDs, Rushing total YPG 144. So there's basically no rushing game.
JG passing eff. 3rd, QBR (the best indicator IMO) 8th, JG doesn't run much. 6th in Sacks allowed (21) must not be holding the ball too long. Count the number of missed block and see how many of the sacks were attributed to our freshman tackles. 21 sacks isn't a bad number sort of middle of the pack. It's a make or break yr. for Will Friend IMO.

Is being a player basher what you really want to known as? Really? Bashing puts you in an indefensible position, cause you're on the wrong side of the fence. So go ahead and get your little Lemming buddies come over and kiss your ass you'll feel safe and secure with no accountability for your posts. Back, not Bash your players. Afterall, It's your supposed team.

So you essentially bash Friend and the OL and the RB's in a vain attempt to defend JG... then lecture someone else about bashing your players?

Criticism isn't "bashing". JG was one of the worst in the country in RZ passing last year. He was 13th in the SEC. He took the longest of any starter in the SEC to deliver the ball.

If you want to see it in a microcosm then watch the USCe game last year and see his deep completion to Callaway. MC had to wait on the ball enabling the DB to close and contest the catch. MC was tackled immediately. Shrout threw the exact same route later in the game but properly led MC for a walk in TD.

The announcer for the IU game said it best. JG has to "see it" before throwing it. He doesn't anticipate throws or coverage movement well. He doesn't process quickly. This has manifested itself in taking a lot of sacks and being ineffective in quick reads and plays that require him to throw to a spot.

UT needs a positive difference maker at QB. JG has a lot of great traits... but that is NOT the story of his career. UT will NOT be better with a significant upgrade at QB. I'm fine if the lights finally come on for him. I do not hate him and never have in spite of what some of his cult fans have said. I simply want top tier QB play... I don't care which guy is taking snaps.

I agree with what you are saying but guys without speed can get separation. BYU seems to always have slow guys running free behind coverage.

On the same token, I hope UT's fast guys have the skills MC and JJ had. I hope one of them has JJ's toughness and tenacity as a blocker too.

Bwahhahahahahahahahahahahaha

You JG nuthuggers can cherrypick stats all you want to.. there are several stats that make him look terrible as well...mostly the losing record vs. The SEC etc. The bottom line is this:

I have watched nearly every UT game since Andy Kelly was the starter at least once, and played football thru HS so I have a good understanding of the game. JG has never been an accurate passer, nor made the reads and gotten the ball out on time; in his entire career at UT. I have never seen a QB from ANY school get called out repeatedly by former NCAA QBs who were calling the game on TV for being so late and behind his Receivers. Never. It was embarrassing . I was embarrassed FOR him. Have also never seen any Div1 QB miss so many 5yd passes to RB in the backfield or flat. Those are considered running plays by everyone but the stat book. Completing them is a given. Except with JG. His head is his own worst enemy. He has been the exact opposite of a "gamer". He plays well in practice and chokes on GameDay. Over and over and...

I hope he comes out a totally new young man this year and lights it up. He has the tools...though he has neither the strongest arm nor fastest feet in the QB room. If he is same old JG however...CJP will either sit his azz on the bench where he belongs, or it will likely cost him his job. If Maurer could stay healthy last year....we wouldn't be having this chat. As a true freshman, Maurer TOOK the starting job from a reshirt junior last year 4 years older than him. We would be talking about Maurer trying to hold off the NEW freshman phenom.

Best of luck to JG, hope he lights it up as a senior. But the 2 or 3 posters here who come out of the woodwork to ride his jock just amaze me. There is a good reason that 75% or more UT fans have had enough of JG. We understand the game and are tired of inaccuracy, indecision, and underwhelming QB play. We would have won 10 games last year counting the bowl of we had a decent QB. Problem is, most of the time we didnt.

Eric Gray and Chandler, if he can get healthy, are fast as well. Everyone already mentioned the WRs. That was one thing Jennings, and kind of Callaway we're never great at.

nuthuggers: Resorting to name calling, I thought I might have someone stupid on line, now I know. Congrats on your HS football you join 99% of everyone on this board. You saw Andy Kelly play, I went to my first game in 1967 before you were born. Show me one time you acknowledged JG just one. Your hate is obvious and your "I hope he lights it up" is a shallow comment and quite embarrassing really. "We should have won 10 games and you blame JG for it, the last time I looked football is a team sport and the team wins or loses together very seldom does one player win or lose a game. JG didn't give up 38 points to GSU, JG had us in the lead with 21 seconds left, no time outs left and BYU fresh QB not done anything in the game and what you know 65yds over the top. Momentum shifts, the DL gets shoved around in OT. The rest is history you need to get over it.

You are on the wrong side of the fence and you don't even know it. You can't win when your premise is bashing players. Either way you go you lose. If JG does well, you're dead wrong, If he breaks down you get what you deserve. Most people refer to people like you as a "Nega Vol" but Nega Vol is a misnomer if you're negative frequently towards your team or a player you're a NAV (Not A Vol). Keep bashing, you're the one that has to live with it. You call me whatever you want because I stood up for our one of our players and you didn't. Come out and admit you hate JG and at least I'll respect you as a man.

SJT, jump into one of my arguments again and the gloves are off. I'll attack you every day until one or both of us is kicked off Vol Nation. I figure I'll be doing Vol Nation a favor. I promise.

All you got to is say Peace and we'll be done with it, or be ready to duck. The battleship is loaded.
