New Vol Commit Emmanuel Moseley: 4.36.

Chris Rainey: 4.36

Eagles' DeSean Jackson: 4.35.

Oregon's DeAnthony Thomas: 4.34.

CP's was 4.33.

Who else do we have coming in with sub-4.4 speed?

It's a lot easier to run around folks than through 'em.

Its also alot easier to take shortcuts, the road more travelled, etc. not saying we have that mind set but id like to see players that want the contact, rather than try and dodge it. speed doesnt put fear in people, and if they can stop your scheme to run around them you got nothing left.

This. Give me smash mouth guys first---including at the skill positions---with as good a motors as you can get, of course. That's the SEC way and we all know the SEC RULES.

I agree and Butch has made it clear he wants to be a physical team. That also runs REALLY FAST LOL.:salute:

How's Smash Mouth working out for Florida's offense?

Butch is already moving to the Oregon-style offense, with his goal of 15-seconds between plays. Until we have Alabama's talent, wearing out the D (particularly Florida's) with a fast-tempo offense is the best way for us to steal a few upsets.

And next year, our OLine is gone. Zone blocking is much easier for a young OLine.

Important to remember this point. Butch has emphasized physical as much as he has emphasized fast. We will need both to win in this league.

How many national championships has the "Oregon-style offense" or the PAC-whatever conference won lately? Nada. Then why should we, and the rest of the SEC, all of a sudden abandon a winning formula for the latest offensive fad? The day THAT happens is the day the SEC goes into decline. Tennessee must maintain a commitment to a physical SEC-style of football---a philosophy that ALREADY includes speed as a critical component, by the way (and I'll be the first to admit that a lack of the speed component is the reason for our recent hard times).

Do you remember that receiver by the last name of Scott, who played in the early 2000's? He had lightning speed, but could NOT catch the ball. He could get open and looked good running down the field but that was it.

He made it to camp with the Steelers but didn't make the roster. He ended up in the Olympic trials a few years later.

What good did that speed do us?

Do you remember the JUCO receiver that was real fast? He played in the same time period. His junior season, he didn't even make it on the field. His senior season, he caught one pass for a T.D.

I have been wondering how this Oregon team would do if it faced the Cornhusker team we faced Peyton's senior year.....now that would be an interesting game.

If you're trying to make this argument work, you'll need to name more than 1 player and an incoming recruit for evidence that we're becoming "Oregon east".

All you guys talking about Smash Mouth football over speed must've never heard Neyland say speed is the most important factor.
