Thank goodness this drama isn't going on in Knoxville. This is definitely a Tennessee-esque crap show though. I thought only our program finds it's way into stuff like this.

The once caveman Bill Belichick has become Mr. Hollywood drama in weeks. Not knocking his personal business because it's not my business, but all of this could have been and could be avoided by him alone.

I think UNC will get to a point where they will just waive the buyout. They'll let him go scot-free.
Coach B is pushing the limits of the 'no such thing as bad publicity' rule.

If the girlfriend is in charge of Belichick's 'personal brand' I would say the value of that brand has taken a nosedive under her guidance.

to where?

there are two sides to that contract. UNC can release Belichick from his buyout. but that doesn't mean Belichick is going to release UNC from their buyout.

UNC would still owe Belichick the contract money even if they fired him/let him go.

I agree that Bill will be fine. He's earned the right to act the fool and hardly the first old rich man to let his Hims subscription steer the boat for awhile.

I'm in the "he'll never coach a game at UNC" camp and that's probably the best outcome for both Bill and UNC.

FWIW if somebody starts a new thread any time some drivel article comes out, that's going to be a lot of threads. I guess we could just start them and they could all be merged into one drivel-about-possibly-rumors-maybe-speculation-uncertain-UNC thread.

The article is pure speculation, but it doesn't seem like this has any chance of being a long term thing. Belichick has always been defiant of authority and regulations and has never been a "players coach". The Kraft family has tolerated and protected him as long as he was winning championships, but there is a reason no NFL team would touch him and that mentality is even worse suited for college football. I don't know if he gets fired and gets fed up and quits, but I don't see any scenario where he has much success in college.

A lot of dudes with grandkids that age wouldn't go there. I know that's unfathomable to guys that would but dating someone your kid or kid's age is genuinely revolting to some people. I mean, to each his own, it ain't illegal, so no judging there but people's minds work differently on stuff like that.

The only thing I have a problem with is the GF inserting herself into football business. Even that is between UNC, the team, the fans, and Coach and his staff. If I was a fan I would be wanting a quick resolution to this PR disaster.

Their relationship doesn't bother me for any reason. They are adults. If he was incapacitated in some way, I would feel differently. She's a social climber and Belichick is giving her what she wants. I imagine he gets what he wants too.

I would say that would go for most any profession when it comes to a significant other. I wouldn't want my wife or girlfriend sticking their nose into my profession nor would I want to stick my nose in theirs. Multiply that by 100 for a very public profession like a football coach.

This may be a zig when others zag, but he was already legend status. With the younger woman, he's approaching hero level.
I plan on the same approach many years down the road when I reach his age.

Go Vols!
