I think people forget that these kids have been raised in a Instant Gratification environment.

The whole pitch of "re-building" should NEVER be used to these kids. These kids are not used to the "waiting" process in general.

Florida, Alabama, Oregon, LSU, and now Ohio State will always be favorites. But I think there will always be 2 separate lines of thought for these kids which are:

1.NFL
2.Winning, National Championships, etc...

For our situation, I don't think Tennessee should even mention the word about competing for championships. That's for the fans, not the recruits (right now)I think our main recruiting pitch is "Tennessee produces more NFL players than any other SEC team."

If you put that in their mind, then all these national titles go BYE BYE in their heads. Let's be honest, did CP ever talk about wanting to win a NC with TN? Hinshaw probably told CP, "Just come to TN and bounce."

Thoughts?

So, you're telling me that kids go to college just to prepare for the NFL with no national title or any sort of title thoughts in their minds?

Just go to Tennessee and bounce? Yeah, I'm sure someone in his position would tell a number #1 JUCO prospect that.

The last 3 years we haven't put a lot of players in the nfl or sniffed at a championship. TN has the history, but the recruits are asking What have you done lately?
The pitch should be-Coach Jones has the history of coaching up his players into the NFL so as a better recruit you have a good shot. Tennessee has the tradition and all the resources for the players to be successful.

A player who has no real chance to make it to the NFL would probably set their goals as being a contributor, earning a degree and championships.

Mark Ingram, Wes Brown, Rod Wilks, etc. etc.

A player who has the potential to start as a freshman or sophomore will have their mind on the NFL, then a degree, then championships.

Jamaal Lewis, Leonard Little, C.P. ....etc. etc.

What we have here, is a failure to communicate.
