We have a lot of guys listed as "DB" on the roster, but I'm curious where they specifically play. This might be a question for @LWSVOL. Are the following primarily playing S, CB, or NB? I know we cross-train our DBs a lot, but I'm wondering where each of these guys is primarily slotted:

-Marcus Goree
-Dylan Lewis
-Tim Merritt

I'm pretty sure Tre Poteat is a CB and I know Sidney Walton is a S. I do recall Dylan Lewis being tried as Star in the Spring, but not sure if he stuck there or not. Goree, I have no idea about. I thought he might be at CB, but since WIlliam Wright came in at CB against Syracuse instead of Goree, is he at NB or S?

Goree is at star
Lewis is at safety
Merritt is at safety

with the injuries, Wright is next up at CB if needed.

BTW, Bolton has gotten a scholarship for running second team at linebacker.

I think this staff recruits everyone as a corner. If you don't make the two deep at corner or star, you become a safety lol.

Suspect Merritt is a safety.
Goree is at star
Lewis is at safety
Merritt is at safety

with the injuries, Wright is next up at CB if needed.

Both Lewis and Merritt are now being played at CB after the injury to Rickey Gibson. I believe Merritt is at outside CB and Lewis at nickel.

Thanks. On today's mailbag podcast, AP said that Lewis and Merritt would be next up at CB after Wright and McMurray. So combining your information with his, does that mean they're primarily Safeties, but would switch to CB if we got down the depth chart that far?

Probably not
👌

The Vols started off recruiting Wyatt more as a linebacker (LEO position in their scheme), but have recently changed their approach and talked to the elite athlete about playing safety. That change, the relationships, the chance to stay home and the NIL offer all helped Tennessee keep the No. 2 prospect in their home state home.

That’s right. There are no DB’s left from Spring’s CB group. Lewis and Merritt are now getting only CB reps.

I’m aware of that.

He’s played safety for 2 games now and he keeps giving up big plays in the passing game.

I’m saying hes not a safety.
