I haven't heard much about how special teams are looking. Gran is coaching them, as you know, so I expect them to be a big factor this year or, at least, a factor.

So what's the story with them? (and sorry if this has already been covered)

I read where the punter was doing much better than in the spring. Longer punts and longer hang time. If you really wanna see improved Special Teams play wait till Palardy gets here. That kid is the real deal.

Ah yes--special teams. THAT probably cost UT 7-8 games in the last 10 years. Famous Phil----"We will get that fixed". Two weeks later, PR for a td. NEVER got it "fixed". I expect Tennessee's special teams to be an asset; now-----not a liability as was the case with CPF.
Not hating on Phil----that's just the truth. That s##t made me so mad, Phil refused to "play the best players" on special teams. "Press the kicking game, for that's where the breaks are made". R.R.Neyland.

I agree. It appeared that Fulmer never put an emphasis on special teams during the last few years he was coach.

I read a stat somewhere—can't remember where—that said we hadn't returned a kickoff for a touchdown since the alabama game in 98, I think. Could be wrong about which game but it's been a long time.

Will I actually have the chance of seeing a blocked FG or punt under Gran?

uh UGA game a couple yrs ago in Samford. Blocked punt in UGAs endzone for a td. You actually had the chance already. Now a returned punt for td, yes we might actually have the chance to see that.

When was the last time that happened? It's been a while

I believe we've always come up with Mark Jones a few years ago. It hasn't happened in a while though

I saw that one all right...directly in front of us. Same corner that Meachem caught the TD pass on the fade and where Foster took it in (for the lead, I believe).

It just seems like UT is always being abused by other teams special teams units. Maybe, under Gran, we can dish some abuse for once

It will feel good to not be sweating bullets every time our STs hit the field.

I was there for that one. Antonio Wardlow got it! It made up for the busted coverage later in the game when Thomas Brown returned that kickoff return the length of the field. Almost got my @$$ kicked after that game, but it was soooo worth it!!! 51-33 Go VOLS!

blocked punt: 2007 UGA, 2006 UGA, then you have to go back to 1997 Bama for the last blocked punt

punt return for TD: 2003 Mark Jones vs. Vandy, 2001 Stallworth vs. Vandy, 1999 Eric Parker vs. Memphis

kickoff returned for TD: 2004 SC, 2000 Louisiana-Monroe, 1999 UGA, 1998 Bama

blocked FG (been lots of these)

Overall, special teams has been really REALLY poor under Fulmer. Not so poor as far as making plays goes, but EXTREMELY poor as far as giving up big plays.
