On a different topic than the other thread about distractions...

Is it just me or have the Vols had almost no stupid drama or distractions under the new management? Very few (any?) arrests, no (?) suspensions for team rule violations, no locker room drama, fisticuffs, falling on helmets, etc., no butthurt ego tripping, no rumors of coaches assaulting players or vice versa, no instagram rants, etc., etc.

Also, pretty lucky so far on the overall injury situation.

(Knocking on wood for all the above.)

Is this how a football program is supposed to be run? Who knew?

Young men can do stupid stuff at any time. However, I believe Pruitt doesn't sugar coat what he'll do if you make poor choices that show the team in a bad light. Hopefully they respect that enough not to test him. As the culture changes I hope they take more pride in their conduct. Maybe that is happening as well.

Some good advice to youngsters is be smart enough to not get caught. Plan it out. No spontaneous bank robbing.

Some better advice, when you have talent to play for the Vols, work every day and make your millions in the NFL.

Some great advice, as fun as somethings can be, realize that they could have long term consequences so, “Think before you leap.”.

Recently I was wondering if Butch really lost an inordinate amount of players during his tenure or if we were just complaining and his turnover was on par with other/past coaches. I've not completed this exercise, but I do have a spreadsheet with all our recruits and what happened to them. I've only made it as far back as Kiffin's infamous 2009 class.

Since then we've had 10 players booted for criminal activity-- these were overt criminal actions, mind you-- there may have been some other dismissals that were more under the radar. One of these was actually on Pruitt's watch. They dismissed Ryan Thaxton for criminal activity. Otherwise, Trey Coleman has been the only player Pruitt has lost to transfer, btw.

Jones lost about 60 players in his 5 years here. These figures include a player leaving for any reason other than draft or graduation, so injuries are counted.

I haven't made it far enough to have anything to compare it to. I'd like to go back through part of Fulmer's tenure so I can compare it to that. I also wouldn't mind doing the exact same thing for Florida and comparing that way. If I ever get it done I'll share the final results. During the research for this I can say a number of players voiced some pretty strong negative feelings for Jones... again, I have nothing to compare it to but it seemed like a lot of negativity.

I'll end this post with a quote from Jack Handy: "I didn't say it was an interesting story." :)

Point 2. Less than 2% of ncaa football players make it to the NFL and usually the ones causing the trouble don’t have an NFL future.

I guess people forget about the Sapp incident. There’s drama on every team. It’s just a matter of if that drama becomes public or stays in house.

That's indicative of the culture Pruitt is installing. That's right out of Saban's play book - keep everything in-house as much as possible. The coaches have the players back no matter what. Also, I think it has a lot to do with the players having respect for their coaches. It was very obvious that the players didn't respect Butch Jones and most of his staff. I think Pruitt has done a much better job of holding players accountable for their actions - if you don't practice hard/play hard/go to class - then you ain't playing, period. Doesn't matter how many stars you had by your name coming out of high school or how important a player you are to the team. Butch was a complete failure at this. What was the motivation for guys to practice hard when they would get to play in the games anyway? It's so refreshing to see some sort of discipline being instilled in these young men.

Yes and that was squashed by both Sapp and Pruitt very quickly and everyone moved on. It was handled the correct way. That situation probably would have lingered all season under Butch Jones until Sapp transferred. Now that we have a real coach, we don't have to lose a solid contributor because he hurt the coaches feelings or vice versa.

At 10:28am Friday November 16, Knoxville Police reported that three underage UT football players were caught walking past the Copper Cellars on Cumberland Ave. No further details are available at this time.
