Aside from doing tests to convert CO2 to O2 they’re suppose to gather samples and send them back to earth. I can assume there’s a rocket on the rover?

Nope! It will be up to another rover/lander or people in the future to retrieve the samples.

Not yet. They have some things to do before the flight. My understanding is it will occur some time in the spring, assuming all proceeds according to plan.
