Southern Miss is a good football team. I don't see us really being able to pull away from them. I think this game will tell us alot.

When did I say anything about their DL? I said our guys weren't good enough to beat their DB's.

On the point of our OL, though, I think it's exactly more of the same as last year: Okay pass protection, no run support. We need Coker.

After watching Tennessee play (we arent that good) and App State win (anything can happen) I will definately not take Southern Miss as a guaratneed win.

Tennessee will beat SoMiss.

Like someone said earlier, we are playing Pac-10 style football right now, and I wouldn't be surprised to put up 40 + on Southern Miss. Although I wouldn't be surprised to see them score 30 + either.

Foster played ok, so did Ainge. 31 points is respectable.

The problem is UT can't stop anyone on defense. Our best defensive player may be a true freshmen. UT's best DL player probably will miss the Southern Miss game. Southern Miss is a more run oriented team then Cal is. This is not a good match-up.

Yeah, I can see that... The games we win this year will be because of our offense.

You can not write this team off after one game THATS NOT WHAT BEING A FAN OF A TEAM IS
You stick with your team and know there is light ahead.
We will get passed So. Miss and look for revenge against Florida from last year's one point loss.
This will still be a good season.
One loss doesn't make us a non factor in the SEC it was an OOC game and we got the butterflys outta our system

I'm as big of a fan as there is. I will root for the VOLS until I die. However, there is something to be said for setting your expectations at the appropriate level. After tonight, I can't expect us to compete for an SEC title. I'm convinced we will have a tough time with Southern Miss. The wins we get, great. But I'd rather be prepared for the worst and hope for the best. That way, another 8-4 season with a peach bowl loss won't sting as bad.

Its sad to even have to post this.

Yeah you root for the best but when its all set and done you don't control the game you just hope it goes well for your team.
I hope we can finsh strong and compete for the title.
If that isn't possible I don't want another bowl loss at least show that we aren't a crumbling program.
Go show how that the Vols are here to stay

I swear, it's either EVERYTHING'S GREAT!!! or EVERYTHING SUCKS!!! With everyone. I hate message boards during the season, because everyone goes stupid. I wish we could have the same fun during the season as we do in the off season. It's like we win, and everyone is talking national championship (that's EXACTLY what most of you would be doing with a win..even if it were by 2 points.) But, if we lose, it's "OH MY GOD WE'RE GONNA LOSE TO EVVVERRRYONE :( :( :( BOOO HOO WAHHHH"


Maybe, just maybe, could we be adults and not bi-polar crybabies?

Why do you think we're so stupid during the season... we've been waiting for 8 months for this... all the pent up excitement, anticipation, etc. And to see us come out with a steaming pile of crap like that... its no wonder half of the board is contemplating jumping off the ledge.

jwells, in fairness some of us expected to lose this game and the same problems (generally summed up as coaching) that caused us to think that way still exist. That said, I think it will be incumbent upon those of us who are going to Knoxville next week to create a good atmosphere and support the team with as much volume and passion as we can muster.

Everyone is overlooking the fact that we put up 31 on what was hyped as a pretty damn good defense.

They put up 45. 31 came from offense. Our offense kept up with their scoring. However, a fluke fumble, and overrunning on punt-coverage opened the game up.

The game was ours to win, we just came out flat, then the D gave in all-together.

To most on this board, it's either W or L. W = party time, L = season is over.

Be generous all you want but check your last 2 games against Southern Miss before you consider 2 td's as being generous to us.

Southern Miss did only beat UTM 35-13 but they historically play Tennessee hard. I'm looking forward to the game.

I agree 100%.

When your offense goes TD for TD with supposedly one of the best O's in the nation, that's pretty good.

A fumble and a punt return. That's the difference. As terrible as the D looked at times, if not for that punt return and the fumble recovery, the game would have been tied. Punt the damn ball out of bounds from now on and protect the QB.

UT is not a 6 loss team.

I agree with you completely.

Some of these posters actually think we cannot win the sec east after one nonconference loss. They are pitiful. And honestly I don't think they know what competition is about.

We beat SMiss. No doubt.

And i am a little tired of our own fans refering to our guys as a steaming piles of crap as well. They are OUR TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS!!!!
