I do not regularly follow C-USA, despite the fact that I live in Orlando, home to UCF. But I just looked and both Lindy's and Street & Smith pick USM to win the C-USA East, ahead of teams like East Carolina (which gave Va. Tech a good game) and UCF (which beat North Carolina State last Saturday).

You really do have to sit up and pay attention to this team and not get caught thinking of next weekend.

I don't think there's any question they better come to play this weekend or we'll be staring 0-3 in the face. If we're looking ahead to UF like we were last year when we played Air Force, we're in serious trouble.

Southern Miss is known for upsetting larger conference teams. If we play defense like we did against Cal we will lose most of our games this year. USM's RB Fletcher is not bad.

That reference/analogy to the Air Force trap game is spooky.

Cutcliffe saw the Appy score. He knows very well the mosh pit that a should win game can be...
And every coach at every big-time program can picture himself in Michigan's place and shudder.
"Am I scared to death every time we go play somebody we're supposed to beat?'' said Cutclifffe.
"You're darn right I am.''

Thank you Law for saying something I've been posting for 3 months.

LOL, not trying to steal your thunder, my friend. Just really kind of took it for granted until I looked up what the expectations are for them. I guarantee you they see this game as an opportunity to get some major positive ink.

Their qb was 11-19, I think with barely over a hundred yards against UT-Martin. I know we should respect all opponents, but maybe we are overdoing it.

The Cal fan's are being very generous.

I think UT's run defense was 10th in the league last year and it looks worse in the opening game this year. Southern Miss has a decent running back. He's small 175 lb, but I think he rushed for 1300 yds last season.

UT is going to need to put up a lot of points in most games to win.

This will be a quick games, lots of rushing and the clock running... we've really got to play smart and take advantage of our opportunities.

I'm really worried about the match-ups... USM will most likely get theirs running on us, and crowd the box on defense. If we can't stretch them like last week, we're not going to score a lot of points.

I think Tennessee will be focused on USM this weekend. After last week's debacle on D, and the upcoming game at Florida, I think they realize just how important this game is. Hopefully they want to come out and make a statement this Saturday...I'm willing to bet that the defense has a little redemption on their mind.

If their QB goes 11 for 27 again, they will not likely score many points on us.

Probably, but they might only have to pass enough to keep us honest, which doesn't necessarily mean that many throws.

If we can force them to throw more often then our chances are much better.

From what I understand, their running game is their strength. I for one am not taking them lightly. But I don't guess if it matters if I am taking them lightly or not...I haven't strapped on shoulder pads in 20 yrs.

Their defensive weakness is their secondary. If they do we should be able to pass on them all day long. But we also will need to stop them from running it for a half a marathon.

For what, 5-8 yards a throw? Hopefully Cut is willing to call some deep balls Saturday...

I have to think that he is going to have Ainge flinging it donwfield quite a bit Saturday. You need to have that part of the passing game developed and ready for the game in Gainesville because you really will want to spread our defense out as much as possible.

I guess depending on how the ole shoulder is doing come Saturday. Reference was made to UT's offense appearing similar to Indy's style. The dink and dunk can work, but Indy dinks and dunks 20-30 yards down field too. Gotta keep em honest boys.

Totally agree with you. But I would have thought the same thing going into a game with Cal.

Another thing to watch for...

Will UT make adjustments to both the offensive and defensive scheme, if needed, at halftime?

i think you'll see a game called with much less "thought" in to it. i expect to see us run the ball more. i expect to see the play action a little more. and i expect to see some attempts to get the ball down feild to WR's that are trying to get separation.

LG, i honestly have no idea what we will try to do against an untested gator D. the fact remains, we still don't know much about them and probably won't until after the TN game anyway.

but first things first.....we need a W Saturday night.

Yeah...I am still dumbfounded about that one. I kept telling myself at halftime that we usually make good adjustments and are usually a better 2nd half team. Yes, we did pull within 7 after going down 17, but the D seemed to spiral down BAD after the comeback. Oh well...spilled milk...just am hoping that the coaches are bringing the right kind of paper towels to wipe it up correctly.
