South Carolina Fans Thoughts

let's look at 2005...

...what was your record after the first 6 games...

...and your record after the last 6...

...also, 6-2 after 8 games is not much different than 4-3 after 7...

...like to the tune of 1 more loss for coots who can't do the math...

...if you finish 6-6 and Clemson finishes 9-3....

...how good does your 6-2 look? :eek:lol:

But I get it...you need SOMETHING to hang your hat on knowing the end is going to be business as usual...

Well 6-2 after 8 and ya'll at 4-3 after 7 is def different. We have one less loss and have played one more game than ya'll have. Dude do I need to remind you that ya'll lost to MARYLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THATS RIGHT I SAID MARYLAND!!!!!! Now ya'll have a lot to be excited about up der in klimpsun!!!

I think predicting future football success can be broken down into the following (in order of importance):

Recruiting
Coaching
Stadium Noise/Intimidation
Tradition
National Exposure
Current Team Success
Facilities
Fanbase

I deal in facts, not opinions. Try looking around on the internet for the following:

Recruiting: We are scaring the bejeezus out of Florida fans right now with our recruiting efforts. There is a reasonable chance that we will land the number one recruiting class in 2010.

Coaching: Any objective observer can see how much UT has improved during the 2009 season. Monte Kiffin is a certifiable defensive genius. Our entire staff is well respected in coaching circles.

Stadium: When UT is good, Neyland is usually ranked in the top 5 stadiums in the nation in the intimidation factor

Tradition: Top Ten All Time

National Exposure: All Kiffin All the Time !

Current Success: It'll look better by the end of the year...

Faciliities: Top ten in the nation

Fanbase: Top ten in the nation

Again, none of this is opinion, you can look all of this up if you care to take the time to do so.

Me: The above brilliant analysis
You: 3-4!

Please up your game a little if you care to continue to engage in this battle

These are the same reasons we think we are on our way:
Recruiting: Top 25 last 5 years
Coaching: Spurrier
Stadium: 82,500---sold out even 0-11 season
Tradition-not alot
National Exposure-7 of 9 games on national TV-1 was on FSN, one on PPV, plus exclusive contract with FSN and Sports South. Replay every USC game on sunday.
Current Success- 6-2
Facilities- GREAT
Fanbase-Like the Cubbies, we're always here good or bad.

The most important are the first two, let's focus there.

Top 5 classes beat top 25 classes every time.

I'll take a 34 year old Kiffin over a 64 year old Spurrier every day of the week and twice on Sunday. We have seen more on-the-field improvement after 0.5 seasons than you have seen in 4.5 seasons. A 40 year old Spurrier - I'd take him in a heartbeat, the one you got, not so much.

Don't stop believin' !

His age has nothing to do with who's a better coach. If anything an older coach is better because he knows more than a young punk like the one ya'll have. If it wasn't for his daddy being on the sidelines with him ya'll would might be 2-5 or 1-6 right now.

Don't think age has everything to do with how much longer he'll be your coach?

I can't wait until Laney boy shows the outside world how much you have been underestimating him. You'll see.

Rivals Team Rankings:

2009: USC #12 UT #10
2008: USC #22 UT NR (#35)
2007: USC #6 UT #3
2006: USC #24 UT #23
2005: USC#23 UT#4

AVG: USC 17.4 UT #15

Recruiting between these two schools have been EXTREMELY close over the past 5 years, so there isn't much difference if any, here

I feel good about how much longer SOS will be our coach and after that his YOUNG son will likely have a good shot at taking over and I think we'd be in pretty good shape considering he's worked with him forever and he's the son of one of the all-time SEC great coaches. So if anybody knows what Spurrier knows, I think it's him and I think we'll be ok once Spurrier is gone which will be in another 5 years or so. I haven't underestimated him. He's doing exactly what I thought he'd do there in tenneshe for ya'll: SUCK!!!!

Recruiting: Top 25 last 5 years

Tradition-not alot----fire extinguishers
National Exposure-7 of 9 games on national TV-1 was on FSN, one on PPV, plus exclusive contract with FSN and Sports South. Replay every USC game on sunday.---you should really thank the SEC / ESPN / CBS for that. It has nothing to do with you.
Current Success- 6-2
Facilities- GREAT-----been there......WRONG!
Fanbase-Like the Cubbies, we're always here good or bad.]---remind me again when you were good?

All in all, I think you will always be "on your way". We have been there (you have not), we know what it's like (you do not), and we are on our way back (you are not), and we will be there sooner rather than later (you will not).

My guess is he was hoping you wouldn't try to find out what they were really ranked in recruting classes over the last 5 years. Haha. Atta boy! :dance2:

Oh so we don't need to be proud that we are loyal fans? He's making the point that we stick through and show up to the games whether we are fielding the greatest team ever or the worst ever. And you need a reminder of when we were good? Were we good last year when we beat ya'll 27-6? Or how bout in '05 when we beat ya'll as well?

Well South Carolina has a deal with Sports South and Fox Sports Net alone from the SEC. In fact every single basketball game will be shown on one of these channels this year. We have a deal to show something like 91 South Carolina events per year. So I think that is pretty good exposure.

Heres why I think the Gamecocks win. Tenn. is rebuilding year after Fat Phill almost ran the program in the ground. Spurrier has the best talent he has had since he has been at SC, and if he can get Gurley, and Jeffery on the field at the same time, then you guys will have some trouble covering them both. I will admit that your program has come a long way since the start of the season and is headed in the right direction. But SC is fireded up for this game and will be ready to play, I think that Lame Kitten will be looking past the Gamecocks because we dont have a long history of winning games like UT does, but we are on our way. Your defence is brutal, but I think with a little luck we come away with a close win.

Oh and Houstonvol, Ya'll are def on your way. Ya'll are going 90 MPH on the interstate straight to where miss state and vandy are right now!!!! Bottom of the SEC.

You missed the whole point again. Are we not talking about the future of the football programs? Not the current football teams? I have already said I think the GAmecocks may win Saturday. I think our current squads are relatively equal. That is why we fiored Fulmer. We are talking ab

I like to look at average star rating, not class rating which is some made up BS:

South Carolina - Rivals
2009 #16
2010 #

can we talk about the 2010 class when the class is signed and we know what everyone has? If we get Lattimore and Floyd then the class will look pretty good...

Wow what happened there?

We are top ten in 2009 and 2010 with lots of activity left for 2010.

So, looking at the future, which is not the same as the present, you should see ominous warning signs already.

IF is a big word

Even if you get both you will be way behind the big boys for the year. That will not cut it in the SEC.

I'll have you know we were ranked just recently in the top 25 but due to most all the people we are recruiting right now are waiting out there decision and will announce on signing day or slightly before. Fulton is announcing in December, Floyd is announcing at the Army All American game, Lattimore will be announcing on
signing day, Ferguson I'm not sure when he's announcing but he's about to cut his list from 10 to 5 in a week or two. Once we start landing some of these guys which hopefully we will, you'll see us in the top 15 definitely!

These are keys to a USCjr, according to cockytalk:

The key to this game and every game we will play and every game we have played is to get a lead quick and not just a td or a field goal lead. we need to be up by 14 or 17 at halftime...IF the score is 24-7 or 24-10 at half that neutralizes Tenn. run game and makes crompton have to pass on most downs to inexperienced WRs. WE NEED POINTS......

Considering our defense hasn't given up a TD in two games...unlikely, to say the least.

I know Tenn record does not show the whole story over the last week but if we can keep them in this range of 116-130 yards of rushing they will be foreced to make some desperate moves, most likely airing the ball out.
UCLA (rushing def. ranked #83) kept them down to 115 rushing yards
Florida (rushing def. ranked #12) k.t.d.t. 117 rushing yards
Auburn (rushing def. ranked #89) k.t.d.t. 151 r yds
Alabama (rushing def ranked #2) k.t.d.t. 76 r yds
(all 4 games are losses for Tennessee...not to mention I think all home games)

Our rushing def. ranked #70...if Auburn and UCLA can do it , we can to!

Our opponents only convert on 3rd downs 36.4% of the time. I think that is pretty good. UCLA only allowed 4 conversions out of 16 and Auburn allowed 4 for 17. Both teams ranked behind us in stopping third down conversions.

I don't think they are taking into consideration that the Auburn and UCLA games were before "The Epiphany."

Well UTjr's D line is pretty average this year. They only have like 9 sacks as a team.

I guess they didn't watch Walker in the Florida game. And we all know Dan Williams eats people.

Our special teams even out perform statistically which could be a huge advantage for us. Lately Culliver has been hot!!!

Special teams is actually the only thing that concerns me. God help us if we don't get good coverage on kick offs/punts or if we can't kick a 40 yard field goal.

How will we be behind the big boys for the year? Lattimore has been a Gamecock his whole life and when is all said and done will likely be a Gamecock and is the #7 overall recruit in the nation. And Floyd who is very high on us, is right behind him at the #8 spot. That's two 5* recruits alone that will prolly move us up to the top 25. And like I said we are still in it with Ferguson, and Fulton. Oh and if we can get Justin Parker, a 4* star LB that will also soar us up through the rankings. Those are the biggest names we have left we are trying to get and there are plenty of others we are still in it with that I'm sure we'll land some of them.
