Sources: UT Athletics Mulling New Apparel Deal With Adidas

Under Armour is not currently bidding on college properties. They just let Auburn go, will hold onto Maryland and Notre Dame and Northwestern, but I don’t see them adding anybody in the next few years.
Well that stinks. I get us signing for the money BUT overall taking money out of equation this is not a good move

Surprised we still haven’t seen any announcement concerning this yet given the timelines discussed earlier in this thread. I’m honestly happy with whatever deal the AD feels is best for our program—my brand loyalty is geared towards the power T & not the logo adjacent to it on the jersey.

@DeerPark12 : I remember your posts from years ago when we initially switched from adidas to Nike. You seemed more pro-adidas back then, but not quite so much these days. I’m curious as to what changed your perspective?

I was not pro-Adidas or pro-Nike. But many people at the time felt like Nike would pay to get us, or that we were on the verge of changing it at any time. I said pretty consistently for several years that Adidas would always be the high bidder, so we would never leave them.

What it took to leave Adidas was to have an Athletic Director willing to take millions of dollars less per year to move to Nike. Financially, that was not and Is not a good move because you will never make up the difference in those dollars with increased sales because of the incredibly small percentage that college programs get on royalties. Still, taking less money wasn’t as big of a deal in 2015. In 2025, you are paying your student athletes a minimum of $20 million a year in revenue sharing, a number that will only continue to rise. I don’t know how any A.D. can look his fans or coaches in the eye and tell them it’s the responsible thing to do to take 8-10 million fewer dollars per year, if those numbers that have been reported are accurate.

it means a WHOLE LOT of adidas is gonna be...

I expect Nike to funnel a little bit extra into whoever can wreck our season every year, just because we switched.
Who cares? We are a second tier program to them anyway. At least we will not be finding Oregon athletics and slave labor in China. Maybe Vietnam, or somewhere else but not China.

Every single time 😂
Nike is the most popular athletic apparel company in the world . You would think that Oregon would be getting a 5 star player at every position in every sport with all of that $$ if the entire world was funding Oregon athletics . The reality is that they’ve never won a national championship, and they got beat down worse than us in the Rose Bowl.

I care not because I have any fondness for Nike. I absolutely hate Adidas. Their clothes have always been ugly to me and it represents a time in which millennials dressed like Malibu’s Most Wanted. I don’t want that for my kid and his generation..

Hopefully, Adidas has evolved from the boxy ill-fitting tee shirts of the olden days and using the same generic alternate jersey template for both us and other teams.

Nike is guilty of awful templates too. See the 2022 World Cup uniforms for several Nike nations and subsequent top-flight league uniforms for legendary teams that all used the same horrible shoulder-yoke design.

I actually like most of what Nike has done with our uniforms, but Adidas fan stuff was always way better for me.

Yeah and those of us don’t care what you think! I don’t own **** of Nike and their crap so don’t buy any Adidas and keep wearing that crap that doesn’t last very long! Either way you don’t make enough of a difference to begin with, as DP stated our sales don’t make up enough difference to turn down the millions of dollars that Nike offers compared to Adidas! Also I think Jamie Kennedy and his crew were wearing Nike through most of that movie!

The NIke uniforms have been great to me outside of the various Smokey Grey ones that we have to roll out every year.

As far as fan gear, I usually buy other brands besides Adidas and Nike for UT gear. Nike's designs have been too bland to me for the price being charged for their gear.

I typically get more retro-ish stuff from '47 and Homefield myself.

You nor your “DP” holds a number or a counter offer. There’s been zero evidence published that adidas would be more beneficial in any way.

There are only two reasons the apparel deal will be worth more than the old one. The original contract ran out and the dollar has lost significant value since the previous deal was made. We have been more successful as an athletics program, which is why we are on national tv more and should be able to reach more consumers.

Is a faninja like a fake ninja? That’s a lot of exclamation for a clothing brand conversation.

Hey @DeerPark12, it looks like we finally got licensed w/ Rhoback. I was wondering if you could tell me why certain companies like Johnnie-O, Peter Millar or Turtelson only use certain logos from Tennessee. Peter Millar and Volunteer Traditions can use the interlocking UT, but Johnnie-O has the Power T and old logo of Smokey. Wasn’t sure if there is a protocol for that

I see your reading comprehension sucks like your taste in clothing Malibu most wanted. It’s a faninga not ninja. And yeah, Adidas is going to pour money into the program, because again they want a foothold in the US college football market and are willing to pay for that. We are top 10 in sales for colleges but yet Nike doesn’t see us that way, seems Adidas see’s us that way and are willing to make that investment. I’m happy about that and glad to see that someone see’s the university as it is and not some also ran. Even though our numbers prove it, Nike doesn’t care to see us as a top 10 program and it’s why we aren’t paid that way contract wise. Glad to see Adidas see’s the worth!

What did I miss?

Anyhow:

It looks pretty even to me. The schools making over $12,000,000 a year have been very competitive in most sports and not just football, which is why Tennessee stands to make a lot more than we were worth in 2017. I’m sure Adidas will make a great offer and I’ll be surprised if Nike does not make a similar counter offer as TN has been successful is all the revenue generating sports.
