Sources: Tennessee restricted Butch Jones’ spending on coaching staff

Guys, look at the numbers they cited. Tennessee had the 8th most expensive coaching staff in college football in 2016, and it went up in 2017 since Scott was making nearly $200K more than DeBord. Don't buy into this. It's a Butch Jones ally trying to muddy the waters.

We got stuck with Scott because bUTch went to LSU's O.C. and tried to bring him to U.T. He said NO, so to save face bUtch promoted Scott.
I would bet that Scott called the plays on 1st & 2nd downs but when the play really mattered, bUTch called the 3rd & 4th downs.
If you see an idiotic play, then you know that it is likely that bUTch called the play. For instance, on the 5 yard line against Florida, three conseq. pass plays were called and one ended in an int. That play has bUTch written all over it...........

Did you quote that straight from the linked article?

hahaha

Of course you didn't. Reading it would be too much trouble and of course it might say something besides Fahr Butch or Butch is moron or other stupid crap you little boys were spouting a month ago.

Your theory sounds interesting but you forget Jones didn’t carry a play chart. I seriously doubt that Jones is smart enough to recall the plays they have on 3rd and various yardage distances when guys like SOS, Kiffin, Kelly, etc all carry a chart. Either your theory sucks or we just fired a guy smarter than all those offensive geniuses

He was just trying to make excuse because the article clearly shows there is more to the issues at UT than the prior HC.

When you put this together with the story that one offer was taken off the table during this search - well - there obviously is a $$ limit that UT is willing to pay.

With them owing both Dooley & Fulmer, I would say that bUTch had to bring in his old coaching staff for the first few years. Then when Dooley & Fulmer were paid off, bUTch was able to go spend money and bring in Shoops and also a Q.B. coach....

That doesn't account for the difference which is 2 times less than the Bama.

Quit making excuses for the numbers - that is part of the problem.

And if UT is not willing to open up the checkbooks right now that could be part of the reason some are saying NO.

Funny thing is that I was thinking about this today. Given how screwed up the current search has been, I began to wonder if the reason we brought in so many subpar assistants over the offseason wasn't Butch Jones, but because the Athletic Department.

I've said a million times, people underestimate how much the AD impacts the football program. I think that's one reason why Les Miles struggled so much in his last years as well. The LSU AD is awful, as well. They tried to be cheap and controlling. It hurt Miles. Maybe Butch isn't as at-fault as we've thought. (Though, he still shouldn't have have gone 0-8 in conference play; that's ridiculous!)

AD's don't throw the ball on 1st and Goal from the 1

Dabo actually refused a raise a few years back and instead used the money for assistants. Once he won the National Championship, he got a nice raise. Good assistants don't come cheap. Not providing a good pool of money for assistants makes it impossible to attract a good coach.

The Haslams need to get their hands off of our program.

What part of this did you not read?

Alabama, which employs several quality control coaches and recruiting assistants, reported $56.1 million in expenses, while the Vols ranked eighth in the SEC in spending at $29 million.

Scott’s salary would have ranked eighth among SEC offensive coordinators in 2016, according to the most recent data collected by USA Today.

Like it or not Tennessee is in the SEC thus we must compete with teams in the SEC. We are 8th in two important categories.

Thanks for dropping this article on us. I've been wondering for a while if this was the case - this was the only way that Larry Scott's promotion to OC made sense to me. I'm not a Butch Jones fan - I wanted him gone at the end of last season - but this is pretty low. It was a UTAD ploy to ensure that Butch Jones failed in a spectacular manner this season so there would be no questions at all from the public when they fired him. It backfired.

Now, we (1) have lost every SEC game; (2) are no longer one of two teams never to have lost 8 games; (3) have even more tangible information that our AD is completely crooked; and (4) continue watch said scumbag AD operate in a shady, disgusting manner. Thank God we have the best alumni, fans and students in the world. I hope the fight continues and that something good will emerge from this awful mess. I also hope that we can look back at this one day and say (paraphrasing Churchill) that Tennessee always does the right thing, after it has tried everything else first. I'm not optimistic at this point.
