Sources: Tennessee restricted Butch Jones’ spending on coaching staff

I call BS. They dropped a bunch of money on Shoop. Butch just didn’t attract good assistants worth top money.

But if that’s the case then that explains a lot

Funny thing is that I was thinking about this today. Given how screwed up the current search has been, I began to wonder if the reason we brought in so many subpar assistants over the offseason wasn't Butch Jones, but because the Athletic Department.

I've said a million times, people underestimate how much the AD impacts the football program. I think that's one reason why Les Miles struggled so much in his last years as well. The LSU AD is awful, as well. They tried to be cheap and controlling. It hurt Miles. Maybe Butch isn't as at-fault as we've thought. (Though, he still shouldn't have have gone 0-8 in conference play; that's ridiculous!)

Probably why we can’t get a quality coach. Potential hires start asking about their budget, and given the administration’s response, they realize they can’t get the people they need to be successful here.

Yup, that was my main purpose in posting this, showing that the AD is probably seen as incompetent AND restrictive. Which doesn't bode well for getting a good coach.

Of course you call BS. It doesn't fit with the short sighted and dim eyes narrative of the Fahr But h boys.

8th in the SEC in spending on coaches salaries. These are facts not twitter opinions.

It is exactly why...as stated in ther article one candidate cited that as an issue

Don’t get it twisted, I supported Butch 110% until this season and started getting our doors blown off on the regular. You are alright with that, that’s you. I’m not.

Maybe you can get hold of Currie and have him bring Butch back since you love mediocrity. We deserve better than what was put on the field this year. You don’t regress in year 5, if he had won the East at least once during his tenure he would have probably skated through this year with a 6-6 and 7-5 record but he didn’t.

Also you call the ones that wanted him fired short sighted and narrow minded and all that but that’s the pot calling the kettle black with the ones that wanted to give him year six. What you fail to realize is at some point it falls on the head coach, that point has came and gone. He made the staff changes this year, which I thought were solid at the time, they didn’t pan out on the field and they cost him his job.

What really pisses me off so much is that we're the second most profitable program in CFB.

Probably profitable because they are are so cheap.

Reminds me of companies like Eastman Kodak and Sears. Once kings of their industries but decided to sit on their cash instead of investing in the new technologies that eventually replaced them.

I think that's one of the main reasons people don't call this a great job. They have to work for azzclowns who know nothing about running a football program. They're all bean counters. No wonder we got stuck with Scott. This is absolutely the worst AD in college football.
