Sounds Like Mid-first round or Bust for Tyler Smith

I would really like to see Tyler with a ring on his finger before he leaves...

Somebody look into it or keep an ear out. I have no radio or access to their site.

I just really don't think he'll be projected mid first round which is specifically what he said it'll take. He just doesn't have the jumper down.

I love Tyler and really want him to return but definitely understand he has to put his family first though if he so chooses to leave.

We also can put a million dollar insurance policy on him if he were to get hurt. That's not long term NBA money obviously (or short term really) but I don't think any normal person would turn down a million dollars right out of college. If you weigh the potential increase he would be looking at by staying another year I very much think Tyler may decide its worth it to stay provided he gets the insurance policy.

I wish him the best if he does go, but I get a feeling that he will be pulling a Marcus Haslip move. He needs more work to develop an NBA jump shot and handle with the ball. I hope he won't wash out like Marcus did.

It will be easy for him to develop an NBA jump shot considering that will be his job for the next 10-15 years.

This sounds strange. He has said that he is not going unless he is in the Top 15-16 picks. He has not gotten a Top 15-16 evaluation from anybody at this point.

he's a good college player, but he's not a great college player, and I agree: He needs to develop better 2/3 position (shooting guard/small forward) skills if he thinks he's going to make it in the NBA. He's a tweener, and does not have enough of a perimeter/shooting game to be a HIGH draft pick in my opinion. I was somewhat impressed by his ball-handling in the Louisville game--he's damn sure a better ball handler than Prince!--but he's mostly a close to the basket player now, and I don't think he can be a close-to the-basket player in the pros, cuz he's not big/tall enough. Maybe the NBA scouts will feel differently--but I think I lot of underclassmen are coming out this year (as usual) and I don't think he's a first-round pick.

i sure hope this is not true, Tyler is a great player and if he just stayed 1 more year he would be even better, but i cant blame him for taking the money.

A pay site that I subscribe to is speculating otherwise. They are saying that no decision has been made and that they feel he will be back for one more season.

honestly, I think there is way too much talent in this draft for any team to consider Tyler in the mid-first round...

Wow. When I heard that if he was in first round, he was gone I was worried. He won't be projected in the mid-first round. I think late first round was best case scenario for him. Sounds like he's sticking around.

People constantly say that. More often than not, the skill set a guy has when he gets to the league is the one he'll carry through his career.
