Sounds like Darel Middleton wants to come back.

I'm case by case on this. I think this roster shows a lot of "addition by subtraction" improvement this year. Don't get me wrong - the previous administration had their heads so far up their collective asses that I can understand how a guy in his young 20s could be disenfranchised, but it'd have to be damn near a unanimous vote by the team.

The guys here now look excited, seem like they all want to be here and they love representing the University of Tennessee. I think (hope, believe) that this is the team that will be looked at as the one that got us back on track. The guys that stayed when a ton of others left and the world had left us for dead - these guys are the foundation. The "Untoucha-Vols".

There's definitely something to say about character, and I can think of a handful that have left over the years that had very little.
I agree I just want depth

If I can get over Cade Mays after what he said and welcome him back which I did and do, then Middleton is an easy welcome back to my mind.
Thanks a lot Remy! Just when I made my mind up that I didn’t want the guy back, you go and throw some damn logic into the equation and cause me to start teetering again!🤦‍♂️
GBO!!

I wonder what DeAndre Johnson thinks he gave up his starting job here to go to Miami and is not starting so not exactly helping his pro chances being a second string player. Not to mention Miami is not exactly looking so good and we are definitely improving.

If he wants to walk on, give him a shot, but I wouldn't use a scholarship on him. Middleton didn't like how Garner was pushing him and where he sat on the depth chart. He wasn't giving max effort. He didn't leave when most everyone else did, he left after going through practices with the current staff.

Has he left the program or is he just coming down to watch the game and visit with friends on the team. WVU is off this week.

I’m fine with him coming back if he’s willing to buy in to this coaching staff, be prepared to be a work and earn his way on the field. If he’s going to come back and not want to be pushed and expect to play instantly and pout when he doesn’t then just stay put.

I rather not mess up team chemistry. Look how Theo Jackson worked with Turnage to help get him ready for the game. You help your teammates.
Can't blame anyone for leaving though. UT was in disarray but at the same time actions have consequences...
Good luck to the fella

This kid left because of his poor work ethic. Rodney Garner wasn't playing with that and made him get out. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that's changed with the way he left WVU because he couldn't get a starting spot. All that being said, if he comes in and convinces the coaches and they let him back on, I'd trust their decision.

I am not so naive that I didn’t know it was never about academics, but at what point do we just call NCAA (SEC) football a NFL developmental league? NIL, transfers, recruiting tactics…

Either be honest and pay these guys and put them under contract, or create a NFL D league and return college football to the student athlete. This will quickly get out of hand if it hasn’t already, IMO. These guys aren’t shopping for academic programs, they’re shopping for schools that will give them national visibility, wins, and a path to the NFL. Another option is to let them major in football and self promotion. It’s time to be honest about all of this. Just my thoughts.

I would welcome back any player that can contribute. It is what it is, regardless of our opinions on the matter.

I wish something would click with this guy. Watched him play in high school and I've never seen somebody that big (he was playing tight end) that could move and control his body like he could. Just amazingly gifted as an athlete.

Do NOT mess with the team chemistry right now. Absolutely not. Also, bringing some of these guys back might set off more questions and investigations. I have a gut feeling they ran so they wouldn't get punished. I'm sure of it.

Same. But I question whether Middleton is the type of guy that performs under a Coach like Garner. Guys like Blakely and Butler seem to be thriving, but Solomon has completely disappeared outside the TN Tech game.

I always liked Middleton, but in no way would I allow him back on the team. Seems he acted hastily and jumped ship (which was the IN THING to do at the time) and has grown up a little and learned a valuable life lesson. But, you can’t go home again. Teammates won’t have full trust in him again. Sorry but he needs to find somewhere else he can play. It’s not here now that we are winning more than the team he chose to transfer to. This would be a definite no go for me if I’m CJH.

Anyone ever think one reason the team plays with so much effort, unlike past years, could be the removal of those with bad attitudes, no buyin?

We've all heard the phrase "addition by subtraction", what about "subtraction by addition"? It happens just as often. Teams are damaged or destroyed by addition of people that dont fit in.
