Sorry, beating a dead horse. Still historically troubling

Not about the coach but the entire team. That is what is lost. That 2005 team had more talent. If you believe it was only the coach that was at fault, I don't know that anyone can explain it to you.

Who put together the entire team?

Weird how this doesn't seem to happen to Alabama's entire team. It's probably because of some nebulous other factor, not coaching.

Butch and UT were just flat and overconfident against vanderbilt, expecting an easy win. They'll beat them next year big in Knoxville.

O...M...G! Now we're looking forward to playing VANDY next year! Can the future of this program sink any lower?

Ok Bozo......its not just a few injuries...it was the whole starting DL and several DBs. Don't ignore the facts to justify your pathetic views of Team 120. The real truth, you believed media and neither like to be wrong, and by the way, more teams than Tennessee did not meet their preseason expectations. If you have no one to blame for your immature response to this years results, its yourself. Too many things had to happen for UT to see a 10+ win season and because it did not happen you blame the team and and coaches........I bet your one of those people that blame everyone else but yourself when things go wrong in your life.

Just another poster who thinks he knows football. Name one time CBJ came out and said this team would win the east or go to the SEC Championship.........not once. It was all media.........and behold......a bunch a pencil pushing geeks that never played football or couldn't make it in the NFL are wrong........Wow! that is news.

Oh okay, didnt know you were referring to Fulmer. I agree. Someone brought up Shaw and Patterson as not meeting expectations this year and I brought up the previous seasons as evidence theu can get it done.
The issue is Jones doesnt have that. I honestly cant think of a single game where is teams overachieved throught a season. Thats my issue. My expectation this season was 10-2 SECE champs. Had we went 9-3 Sugar bowl, I would have been ecstatic even though they didnt meet expectations. Even told my wife we were going regardless of cost.

I know alot.of people looked a bit more positive because of recruiting since the Vandy game, but I don't put alot of stock in it. Mainly because I dont think CBJ has the ability to develop it. If he proves me wrong great. But I think next year we will understand that we dont have a good coach but have been watching a GREAT quarterback the last 4 years.

Outside of Briles, Petrino and Kiffin, I don't care what the coaches name is as long as he coaches a winning team that competes for sec champs every few years and runs a relatively clean program.

I understand what you are saying but until this year UT had beat at least 1 team is was supposed to lose to.

All I am pointing out is sometimes a team does not click. Even with the same coaching staff, the team does not perform as expected. I'm not saying it is all the players fault or all the coaches fault. That 2005 team had 18 starters return from the 2004 season. There was more talent on that team then this team and they lost more games.

Another example would be the 2012 USC Trojan team. They started the season ranked #1 in the AP Poll, but finished unranked—the first team to do so since the 1964 Ole Miss Rebels. They returned 18 starters and 13 All-Conference performers from a team that finished the 2011 season ranked No. 6. Again the same HC, OC, and DC.

I'm not happy with the season but you also have to admit that none of the coaches forgot how to coach in the off season. This year we returned 17 i believe not counting special teams. Again all 3 of those teams returned 17 or more starters, all but this years UT team had the same HC, OC, and DC. What is really the problem?

Nobody...you like getting your tail whipped twice by the same person?

I doubt that. Some of us would take a whoopin personal and come back a little meaner and yes might even take another whoopin. I guess others would take the whoopin and call it a day.

So with a Sugar Bowl berth on the line Jones didn't have his team mentally ready? A very experienced team took Vandy lightly?

If so Jones is guilty of coaching malpractice

They seemed ready enough to go up 21-7. But I'm sure you're right, Vandy got us right where they wanted us and to think we fell for it.

After a decade of whoopins, that's what a lot of fans are doing on here.

That there is a segment of the fan base saying that moving the FL game and dropping the Third Saturday in October will cure our woes of fielding unmotivated and unprepared teams under Jones just baffles me.

That losing to Vandy under any circumstance whatsoever is acceptable to some of these guys on here leaves me shaking my head. Hell, Majors took a team that started 0-6 in 1988 and managed to beat Vanderbilt.

I guess I am just too stubborn and have too much pride in the Vols to want to quit or see them do the same.

Lol now we (vols) are the kids that get their tail whipped and run in the school.with a bkack eye but say "you should see the other guy" or "wait till next time" lol.
No thanks, Vandy whipped our tail when it counted. We can huff and puff and beat our chest all we want now. The problem is the tail whippin was broadcast on tv, do anything after that is just meaningless talk.

We need to beat Nebraska and send Dobbs / Barnett / Kamara and Sutton out with a win.
Whose know what would happen in a rematch with vandy (pretty sad we are talking about wanting a rematch with vandy) or what will happen next year.

There you go letting facts get in the way of a good story.

I am sure someone on here will walk it back what he meant by Championships just like Jones has been doing all season.

He meant to say they won the Team with Tennessee in Their Name Championship against TN Tech and the Tri Cities Championship since Barnes beat ETSU last week or some other nonsense they pick up from a Jones quote.

I think the looking down on people will turn around on you. Acting like losing is beneath you when you "ain't done ****" since 1998 is ridiculous. You guys want to be "realists" correct? That is historical fact. Almost 20 ******* year's.

Nice little twist there. You are the one that said nobody on the team would want another crack at Vandy because of fear of another loss. I disagree. Even after the loss none of the player interviews I saw gave any indication of fear to compete but rather they seemed disgusted by their performance and embarrassed by the loss.

Maybe some folks are better at getting their tail whipped and then moving on with no hard feelings.

Vandy was a bad loss, I'm glad there has been some time for them to get it our of their head. Snap and clear sounds good, but for somethings it's easier said than done.

I still say you are wrong about the player wanting to avenge that loss as quickly as possible. That maybe why the were do down after the game, some knew they wouldn't get a chance to make it right while other knew it would be a long year having to live with the embarrassment.

Okay, let me put my attempt at a comedic twist in plain english...The last time Tennessee was on the field with Vandy they got their tail whipped. Absolutely nothing has taken place since then that would indicate that doing it again would have a different result.
Furthermore, it is said to me that in year four of CBJ that is where the fanbase is at, boasting and beating their chest about wanting a rematch with Vandy.......Vandy.
