Sony plans on $2.9 billion loss for the year - Joystiq

Sony is in a bit of trouble. Hopefully it doesn't derail their nextgen plans.

In won't derail it, but theyve already stated repeatedly that there are no plans to reveal or release a new system in the next year

...in fact the head ign interviewed mentioned an ideal 3 more years or so, I think (I'd have to find that "no ps4 at e3" article again)

Yea a loss is not making as much as you think you should. I'm sure the hack attack played a big part. I'm sure they factored in all those free games they gave away that nobody would ever buy to begin with & a free month of that ps plus or whatever it's called.

Ouch..

Sony announced this morning they've lost $6.4b in 2011, rather than the previously doubled forecasted loss in February of $2.7b.

I'm sure they lost giving away free crap nobody was gonna buy anyway. Just sandbaggin for the next year.

so they gave away an additional 3 billion away.....thats what you are saying? Guess that makes having to cut 6% or your global workforce to start becoming profitable makes sense then.

I'm saying I don't think they actually lost anything.

Keep in mind that Sony does ALOT more than gaming technology. The PS3 is probably one of their few bright spots

I would guess this has way more to do with losses in other tech industries where they are losing ground. Also, their biggest profit generator was financial services which I would guess was hit hard by the tsunami disaster since the markets got hit, amongst other industries as well.
