Song Title Game

re Willis: if you haven’t seen him, and you have the chance, do so. We saw him several years ago, and it was pretty obvious that he had cognitive issues going on. The audience helped out, singing the lyrics, when he got lost.

This was his one and only album, from 1972. He’s been working on a follow-up over the next 50 years, never releasing it, because it wasn’t perfect enough. As someone who wrestles with “Paralysis by Analysis”, I get it, but it kills me. He’s a genius. He is revered in the Americana/ Texas music world. His songs have been covered by everyone.

He almost had his masters for his second album ready to go in the oughts (early 2000’s), and a flash flood at his home in Colorado wiped them out. I doubt it will ever happen.

As an awkward, confused, almost 18-year-old back on the Mainland after 5 years in Hawai’i who had never hear of Eric Clapton or the Allman Brothers, that cover picture introduced me to the concept of a chit-eating grin, and it has pretty much been my prerequisite for a guy ever since. If you don’t have that look, don’t even bother. 😁

And yes, he wrote the song that became Muskrat Love, and it was fabulous.
