I didn’t realize that I could understand Portuguese

She’s a great jazz pianist, and she does the husky-lispy Brazilian woman singer voice to perfection. She was also wise enough to marry her bass player, who played with Bill Evans in his last years.

I first heard bossa nova as a kid in the early sixties, and I’ve loved it ever since.

She does a gorgeous version of “Estate” (es-TAH-teh, Italian for “summer”). Brace yourself for Italian sung with a heavy Brazilian/ Portuguese accent:
