Obviously all focus in the program is on UGA this week. Absolutely massive game for the season and the program. Perhaps a narrative-changing game if we can win (which I've been pounding the table that we can all offseason).
That said, one major thing for down the road that I'm watching is UF. At 1-1 and the fires raging in Gainesville already, they're at LSU and then at Miami the next two weeks before a bye. Nearly 10 point dogs this weekend and likely the same or worse the following - if chalk holds they'll be 1-3 heading into a bye week after the all important 4-game mark when it comes to redshirts. Again, assuming they don't pull off a major road upset, Napier is a dead man walking whether they pull the trigger between Miami and Texas and then @A&M (!!!!) or not.
So, I'll be watching if any players on that roster make a business decision at that point to shut it down and not lose a redshirt year during a completely wasted season so that they can keep another year of getting paid for NIL on their resume. If so, which ones and how many? It's not a good roster to begin with IMO, but they do have some high level guys who will absolutely be fielding calls about the portal and getting business advice from their agents regardless of whether Napier is fired in September or a few weeks later. Does Lagway shut it down - if so they have nothing but walkons, lower rated freshmen, and Harrison Bailey behind him. What about some of their young skill talent, or their young DL?
Point being, this is no longer a world in which a team circles the wagons after a coach is fired. It's now every man for himself, which could, if things break right (i.e., favored teams TCB against Florida) make for a much easier game in Gainesville in November than anyone - even me and others who were skeptical of the UF preseason hype - contemplated.
Open for thoughts, Geaux Tigahs!
