1995 UT goes to Bama with a Sophomore QB and a great young receiving corp, looking to break a losing streak to the Tide. Bama won the NC 3 years previous

2011 UT goes to Bama with a Sophomore QB and a great young receiving corp, looking to break a losing streak to the Tide. Bama won the NC 2 years previous

That is still my favorite game that I went to. I remember bodysurfing Smoky through the crowd in the 4th qtr. Good Times.

I was in Gatlinburg with my wife and brother-n-law and his wife. We had a chalet and there we were flying a big UT flag. The chalet below us was flying a Bama flag and we were talking back and forth before the game.

When Manning hit Kent over the middle, we ran out and sang Rocky Top on the balcony. We did that after every score and never heard a peep out of those Bama folks again. After the game, we went down to Gatlinburg and would say Go Vols to every bama fan we would see.

The memories!!!

When we were going into the game, a lot of the bammer fans were carrying signs with "10" on them to signify how long it had been since we beat them for after the game. After that first play of the game, our fans went wild and stayed that way. After the bootleg put us up 21-0, we only got louder. But after Bama scored late in the third to make it 28-14, the rumblings in the pit of our stomach were starting. For those of us that had watched the previous 9 Bama games anyway, it was an "oh no, not again" type feeling as this was the first time the Bama fans had really made any noise. We could almost picture the clock bleeding offense and the Mustang defense meltdown coming. But when they handed the ball to Jay on the first play of that next drive, and we saw him rumbling right at us all alone, we knew. So, yes, the first play of the game was awesome and does indeed inspire chills. So does the bootleg. IIRC, that was the first time Peyton used his now might-as-well-be patented bootleg. Everyone, including the fans, cameramen, and commentators were lost for a split second. But, if you were one of those that had endured the previous 20 years of the 3rd Saturday in October and were there, you just cant beat the feeling watching that run and remembering him coming at the TN section. I honestly couldn't talk for 3 days.

1995 UT goes to Bama with 2 top-5 recruiting classes on its roster against a Bama team with only 1 such recruiting class on its roster.

2011 UT goes to Bama with 0 top-5 recruiting classes on its roster against a Bama team with likely FOUR top-5 recruiting classes on its roster.
