Something seems off with Heupel

The gum chomping is middle school type stuff. Sounds like a cow chewing cud.
It is not a good look.

If writing for an SNL style parody (or SEC shorts) one could make it Nicorette he obsessively keeps popping in his mouth OR the ear of his DC which he just bit off. (I'll expect a check, guys....)

Your habits at the mic shouldn't lend themselves to comedy sketches if you coach in the SEC.

Honestly, I stopped
Watching his pressers last year. It’s softball questions and the guy never says anything…
Our media is a bunch of wussies. Ask the damn questions that need to be answered. Quit sugar coating a bad performance by the staff and players. In this day and age of pay for play we deserve answers and results from our coaches.

Yeah, I’m with you and think it’s pretty obvious. He had just gotten throttled for his lunch money on national tv by the geeks from computer lab…..in his own backyard
Agree except about the “geeks from the computer lab”. Those guys are the same paid mercenaries that every college has now. Vandy is no longer about rocket scientists trying to play football.

True, but just roll with me on this one…. It’s still Vanderbilt…. To me they’ll always be a bunch of wine and cheese eatin’ bitches

Me and my buddy was having this discussion last night after the game and he noticed the same thing.

Did anyone else notice Heupel’s demeanor has changed completely from a couple of years ago?

He looked emotionally defeated on the sidelines.

I’m wondering if the stress of this job is starting to get to him.
I think he's just teed off at the mistakes that led to the loss, which is a good thing.

Inspirational. What player wouldn't run through a wall for a guy like that?

I'd like a nickel for all the times he mentioned "little things", penalties, mistakes, self inflicted wounds, etc. This was a problem at UCF as well as his entire time at UT. The players have changed, many of the coaches have changed, but these "issues" remain problematic. What's the one constant? Yep. Heupel. Pretty clear he's allowing it, not able to change it, or simply paying lip service to it.

To that point, the gum is likely to control his cough. He's also used water.

Just watched the press conference and I have seen Heupel at the podium before after a loss. But something seemed different this time. Something seemed strange. Heupel didn’t act like himself. He seemed, I don’t know, distant maybe. I wonder if something has happened behind closed doors. Maybe I am just reading it wrong.
There's the Penn St rumors..May be something to it.

I picked up on that too. I hope there's no fire to these Penn State rumors

If he wants to save his job absolutely. If he wants to ride or die with his current staff then he’s probably not coaching here in 2028.
As much as I like him, this is true and I would have to support it. There's a lot of coaches out there who are good at defense or offense but can't find a whole team. If that's what he is, then so be it.

My wife was saying she think he seems very disassociated earlier today and it made me think of your post. Football aside I would be really bummed if he was going through some kind of depression or something like that. Idk him personally so I wont assume, but she mentioned how sad he seemed during all the press conferences throughout the year.
