Something seems off with Heupel

He probably knows he has tough decisions to make this offseason. Just a wild guess.
Lots of fans on VN have been calling for a certain coordinator change. I’d guess that Heup has been feeling similarly, but today, he knew it for certain. He’s loyal to a fault, but he’s gotta have some self preservation in his DNA.

Gotta love the coach fans.

Gonna make every excuse for coaches paid millions and millions of dollars by the University of Tennessee.

Try being a fan of the University of Tennessee instead of some mercenary who almost left for UCLA until the UT paid him NC and final 4 money.
They are all mercenaries. My point is, no coach is going 30-0 in Division 1 basketball. We play those tournaments to prepare us for March. I don’t think coaching was what lost the Kansas game. I’m glad they paid him and he stayed. If you want to be miserable, that’s your right.

Me and my buddy was having this discussion last night after the game and he noticed the same thing.

Did anyone else notice Heupel’s demeanor has changed completely from a couple of years ago?

He looked emotionally defeated on the sidelines.

I’m wondering if the stress of this job is starting to get to him.

He saw his team quit for the first time in 5 years...
'22 defense vs SCjr comes to mind. We've had other half's that the defense came out with no juice. Just seems to be a laid back staff and roster at times. Or maybe they had some thanksgiving leftovers at halftime and the team/staff were ready for a nap?

I debated that. I chalk that up more to not being prepared (the entire game) and Jeremy Banks team issues than quitting....

If you want to say they quit after Hooker got hurt, I would buy that....

But that's different than what we saw yesterday...

Undoubtedly Heupel didn’t want to make one of his coaches the “fall guy” like Bob Stoops made him. This is an absolutely desirable trait in a coach and yet, he knows he needs to make changes for the better.

Might have felt the pressure all year and wants out. Who knows! Coaching at Tennessee or the SEC for that matter isn't for everyone. With the expanded playoff he could go to some group of 5 school and make it almost every year without any of the pressure.
A Big Ten school might work for him. You play one or two tough games a year.
