Something just strange

Jeremy was hired December 2017 and did not start coaching til after bowl games. It is going to take some time to create a Jeremy Pruitt team. Still too much Butch hanging around. I saw one play that really sticks with me. A second half GAST run in touch down through three Vol defenders. That has got to stop. A good defense doesn’t get burned on plays like that from the GASTs of the world. Only thing that could be worse is another butt whipping by Vandy. I’ll shut up. Go Vols...fix it and win.
He has had plenty of time to teach them how to lineup. The most basic function in football. This came up multiple times last year and now again this year. They literally don’t know where to stand on the field. There are high school teams that know where to stand and that you need seven guys on the line.

I feel the same I’m just still not sure what to make of yesterday. I do think some of the upperclassmen just don’t care that much as someone else said. Not sure about JG, I’ve not been negative on him but he didn’t really inspire confidence as a leader. Maybe he’s just over it from the lack of help he’s gotten from his line his whole career. I would about be satisfied just throwing all the underclassmen we have on the field and preparing for the future with the exception of a few like Trey and Jennings. I want to hope yesterday was a perfect storm of players not being hyped, coaches overlooking a weaker opponent, new coordinators etc. if we don’t look much better next week then idk
JG lack of help? Sure he’s been jerked around in the past but this offseason he’s had access to TWO NC winning QBs Martin and Weinke plus text exchanges with Manning and a proven QB Coach/OC in Chaney. Almost no QB anywhere has access to resources like these.

So are all these proven resources just frauds in disguise or is it possible that JG is a lost cause and just can’t get it done? Think about it.

I don't think a lot of the players care. Something is rotten in that locker room imo.
Maybe they truly need to weed out Butch's players?
Im not making excuses for the staff, but like the OP said, it's a heck of a staff out there. Not Butch's average coaches that he tried to sell as the "best staff in America" crap. Something was really weird out there. Pruitt may honestly not know how to handle them. This staff is nowhere near as bad as the team showed. Of course, you can look terrible if your coach is bad.

Pruitt needs to learn how to call a timeout when his defense is running off/on the field at the snap and looking lost.

I think it’s obvious at this point that he doesn’t like the Vol fan base or love the traditions. I’m sure the players have noticed as well and many are probably of the same mindset. If players really loved this school, they’d give their all. Outside of a handful of guys, they just don’t give it a full effort.
Ok if he’s all business and doesn’t like to hob nob with the fans and such then WHY doesn’t it translate on the field? If he truly doesn’t like the traditions why didn’t he quit after 1 season?? If I didn’t like traditions of a place I wouldn’t be there long...just saying.

I think he knew the team was gone half way through the 3rd quarter. Must be pretty depressing to see all your players give up against Georgia st.

I don't know what the issue is. But I know something is seriously wrong when you get manhandled by a glorified high school team in your own house.

It seems to be a pattern that the majority of players do not care or have any energy. It started at the end of last season. I don't know if it is Butch's players, locker room division, the coaches, or some combination of all three.

On paper, this is a young, talented team and a talented staff. We shouldn't look like we did yesterday. Something is seriously wrong on the Hill. And I'm not sure it will get fixed anytime soon after yesterday's debacle.

During the whole game I asked myself are we really this bad? The coaches don't seem overly stressed not did the players. Are they trying outfool BYU and further competition? Idk. I refuse to believe we were actually as bad as we played yesterday

If they were actually doing that, then they are dumber than I thought.

But that's not what happened, what happened is....we're not good.

lol... no, they did not lose on purpose. They got their asses whipped. This is going to be a bad year... really bad. But I agree with some of the other posters that we need to flip the roster... soooo... another couple years of this crap.

You can't draw unemployment if you quit.

*I found out the hard way.

Even our third string should’ve been able to at least compete against Georgia State...I’m completely confused. Nothing makes sense. Even if you’re divided as a team and everyone is out for themselves you’d see more fire than we saw. Even if it was unproductive and selfish...it would at least be “I’m gonna go make a big play to make the highlights” or something. No one gave a tip about anything. I couldn’t believe the times we’d see coaches between plays with zero expression on their faces.

I’m not making an excuse for his performance he left a lot to be desired. He for some reasons feels the need to throw passes as hard as he can from 5-7 yards away, but none of those things have given him a better offensive line either which is what I was getting at. They were still abysmal and looked lost all game.

Are you joking? Which of the 12 different O line permutations looked the most lost?

Sorry but I will not sit back after painfully watching every second of that crapfest game and tolerate any scapegoating of our OL. JG had ALL DAY to throw the football on most snaps despite our revolving door OL scheme he just couldn’t see the open receivers downfield. Despite 9 months of offseason coaching from some of the best in the business he hasn’t improved at all.

The majority consensus before the season began was that JG had to take a major step forward for us to win 6 or more games this season. The jury is in on JG time to put Maurer in and invest in the true Frosh. Can’t do any worse than the proven losing trajectory we’re on now.

Players betting huge on the games. Making bank.
Now you may be on to something.... maybe that was in the recruiting offer for some of those big names we landed.... y’all bet the farm on the GA state game and we’ll sand bag it, make bank and then start playing.... I would feel better about it if that were the case....

Good enough to beat GSU yes. I think we have a group of upper class players who go through the motions. I don't think they have a passion for the game. I also don't think they're SEC material. We need a roster flip....badly.
Pope is a good example...

But what if they come out Saturday night and lay an Ass whooping on BYU, then what is everyone gonna think. I've got a funny feeling inside me that says this is going to happen, and if we all are confused now we definitely will be after Saturday. But hey I'm just saying
That may be gas from the nachos.

Something just doesn't jive with me yesterday. Did they lose that game on purpose (For some odd reason nobody knows)? I mean come on everyone hear knows we have a Good staff of coaches, and also we have lots of talent! You not gonna tell me this team is not GOOD enough to beat a sorry Sun belt team. Something strange going on!
Broad brush.

I said basically the same thing after the Vol walk.. just a weird feeling and neither Corny and the players seemed to be happy or revved up to kick ass.. Corny seems arrogant and not approachable with the fan base and players are following his lead..

Gone are the glory days of Tennessee football.

Ok, gotta know who's Corny?

I really really hope we didn’t think GA State was a threat and looked past them. To me that is the only thing that makes sense. The last drive, we marched down the field. That drive was clicking and we took whatever we wanted. If we see a different team and handle business against BYU, then this has to be the case.. Correct? If we get run off the field by BYU, then we know it will be a LONG LONG season..
