Anytime you are talking to the Navy DC it is not a good thing,,, that has got to be something like 4,5 down the list maybe farther..

Narduzzi would be a nice addition,, also Zook.

This thread (and many others like it are insane). Everyone assumes we have been turned down by each coach that gets mentioned as soon as we don't announce hiring within next day of first rumor about him. Don't you think it's possible (actually likely) that Dooley and Hart are simply being diligent and talking to more candidates until they decide who they want? It is possible that none of the candidates have actually turned us down - the ones who said that could have easily been told that we do not want to consider them! Yes it would be nice to announce something soon just so that everyone shuts up about it but it's good to see that DD is not rushing into making a mistake just because the fan base is hysterical.
As far as Santos and others who may be reconsidering - do you think even if they think they are going somewhere else right now but we announce hiring of some well known NFL DC a week before signing that they would not reconsider again and come to UT? Everyone should just calm down and let DD and Hart handle this (this is what they get paid to do and it preferable that they handle this rather than volnation or twitter).

If Hart is running around hand picking DC's for Dooley then he's on the shortest leash possible. It should be Dooley's decision with only Hart signing off on it. This may be the problem. Dooley might have had his man and the contract wasn't what they wanted. If that's the case then it should be about time to wipe the slate clean. Why handcuff a guy? Do him and yourself a favor and part ways.

Rushing the hiring process to save a recruit or two is stupid. Hart and Dooley aren't stupid. Like others have said, hiring a coordinator takes time...it's been what 10 days? Look, we all want a hire in place before this weekend (CDD included) but rushing into it and possibly hiring the wrong guy just to have one in place tomorrow is foolish.

There's still plenty of time before NSD, if the recruits want to be Vols now, they'll be Vols then (when a new DC is in place). JMO

I agree with this even though it may cause a few cardiac arrests come Friday when we dont have a DC yet. I say take your time and hire the right guy. Recruits are not going to switch schools because we are being diligent. If so, they were flakes anyway. Hiring a DC in time for a few recruits to meet them while they are visiting is the tail wagging the dog.

Ironic that UT rushed to hire Dooley just to save the 2010 recruiting class. I do agree with you that UT should take the time to make the right hire, just like they should have done when Kiffin left.

That was completely ridiculous. This is new to Tennessee fans. They're used to Mike Hamilton tripping all over himself to make bad decisions.

I'm with you. Sadly, today's society expects instant gratification though.

I think it takes time to see who is available, who is interested, who fits/meshes with the staff, then after that decision is made you put out some offers and people have to discuss picking up their family and moving across country. These are not decisions that can be made in a hurry.

Not if saving a few recruits is the reason. It's one and the same. That's why they hired Dooley, to save a class supposedly. Hiring a DC to save a few guys seems just like that to me.

I have news flash for you.... It doesn't matter what a couple of kids think. You do what's right for the University. Dooley was knee jerk. If you hire someone just to get a body then that is knee jerk. Same situation, same problem.
