All these Pearl haters on here saying they wont watch the team again and Pearl should be fired need to wake the f up. If anybody wants to be successful in college sports you have to bend the rules. Not by paying players or academic fraud, or something serious like that, but by finding the holes in the rule book. Think Nick Saban is an angel? Not hardly. The bump-in rule was created because of him. It's just like Nascar. If your not trying to push the limits you will go from finishing 1st to finishing 30th. Look at Jimmie Johnson he has won 5 championships in a row and he has been caught cheating several times. It's not like Pearl used an illegible player in a game. They were making too many calls to recruits to gain an advantage on teams that were doing other things to get an advantage. It's a dog eat dog world out there. Lying didnt help anything but at least he admitted it now. Give the man a second chance. I'd rather win and make too many phone calls than lose and be likeable (BUZZ PETERSON)

While I disagree with your premise that you have to cheat to win, I agree that there are others out there doing far worse. The rules are the rules and they exist to keep order and a level playing field. In a perfect world, everyone follows them, the coaches and players let it play out on the court, and are judged on their own merit.

In the long run, cheating is cheating. Whether you pay players, or make an extra phone call. Lying about it only compounds the severity.

I'd rather win and play by the rules because I would like to think that there is some bit of purity in amateur athletics. Unfortunately, our money-driven society teaches a different philosophy.

I'm not a fan. I'm an alumnus. It's a university, not a sports franchise. Every time our coaches get busted for cheating, or our football players commit a robbery or get in a melee with an off-duty cop, or our hostesses get called out nationally for being whores, or a third of our basketball team gets busted on New Year's Day for cruising around with guns and drugs, or any of the other dozen embarrassing things we've made Sportscenter with in the last few years, it cheapens the reputation of my alma mater. It may just be sports to you, like NASCAR or the NBA, but it's a hell of a lot more personal than that to me. Maybe you don't give a crap about the University of Tennessee other than two of its sports teams, but I care about its reputation as jealously as I would my mom's.

Another one of these ignorant "He won so he can cheat" posts.

Its not as much about winning as standing up for someone who has loved this university and turned down other jobs to stay at a place that has won nothing. He deserves our support.

What shot/beer are you on Verc?

Sixer of Sierra Nevada Torpedo (an extra IPA). No liquor. I've got about 20 pints left in the keg of Guinness that we keep in the kitchen, but I'm not touching it tonight because I need there to be sufficient pints for tomorrow. So now I'm thinking about drinking my wife's beer because she went to bed. Silly, foolish girl.

I do have some extremely nice whiskey crawling around here, now that you mention it, but I really am not going to waste it on today. Kickoff, maybe.

So you are a Fulmer fan? I could care less about reputation. I want everyone to hate us. I hate Bama and Florida and they should us.

If you go to bed with unconsumed alcohol it becomes free domain for anyone who is within said property.

Learn the rules you kitchen dwellers!

Why would I be a fan of Fulmer's? Guy ran as loose a program as anybody -- cf. the Fulmer Cup. His players were out of control AND he lost. Vaya con Dios.

Note that all you think of when you think "reputation" is what happens on the football field. You think that the University of Tennessee = its sports teams. While I appreciate you supporting my school by purchasing its tickets and swag, there's a hell of a lot more to it than that.

Pearl should not be supported. This is what kills programs

That's pretty narrow-minded. I hope those people that you would rely on for support when you make a mistake don't take that same approach with you.

Guiness, eh? Hope you have nitrogen hooked up to that keg because without nitrogen, the keg will not pour. By the way, where did you find that Sierra torpedo? To my knowledge, the local distributor of Sierra only carries a couple of Sierras products.

1) We've kept a kegerator with a mostly constant keg of Guinness in our house ever since our elder child became too ambulatory and ruined our time in the pubs. I fart in your general direction for even entertaining the idea that I'd have anything other than the proper nitrogen/CO2 mix hooked up to it.

2) I'm in Atlanta. We can get Torpedo in most of the decent grocery stores, as well as all of the liquor stores. I've been sort of done with Sierra Nevada beers for a long time, but when they came out with the Torpedo they sucked me back in. Delicioso!

Why bother? That awesome APR boost the Ramar, Tabb, et al crew is going to give us hits next year. We'll then be triple crown material. We'll have the New Year's Day Idiocy, NCAA violations, and a laughable APR score. Awesome job, Bruce.

Any fan who won't support bruce and UT basketball after this is not a fan. We don't need them and I don't want them. Bruce got caught bending the rules. I still love and support he and the Vols! If anyone wants to jump off the wagon, ADIOS! Ill enjoy paying less for season tickets.

Ridiculous. Bruce got caught scheming to BREAK the rules and then intentionally breaking said rules then lying about it becausehe believed he wouldn't be caught. You can minimize that as you see fit, but to pretend that people don't have a legit beef here is dumb as hell.

Has it been a tad ugly? Yes. But has Bruce taken this bsaketball team to heights it has never seen? Yes!

I enjoy your comments and posts hat. I feel you are a well educated basketball fan. Saying that I think Bruce was the right hire 6 years ago and is the right coach now. I think this team will make it to at least the sweet 16 and Bruce will keep us in that area for as long as he is here.

I love UT bball and I do not think there is a coach that would come to UT that would put them in a better position to be successful than Bruce.

As for the reputation of Tennessee, other than the business school we have plenty more to worry about than are basketball program.

VB!
