Backs like Lewis come around once a decade.

Last I checked, the guy set records in the NFL.

the guy was the best back in the sec since bo and walker. Richardson is close.

Agreed. Don't know of a better back to come out of the SEC since J. Lewis. If Billick wasn't a tool he'd own the single-season NFL rushing record and be a lock for the HOF.

Richardson doesn't match in speed. Truly a rare back.

I always wondered how he could run that fast with his head cocked back.

I was a student at UT when Jamal was there and he was SO much fun to watch. He broke out in the Georgia game that year, and not sooner bc Fulmer just wouldn't play freshmen. He said Jamal hadn't learned enough of the blocking scheme.

Fast forward to the year after Jamal's injury and I remember chatter about him going pro, and even many people on campus wanting him to go pro. Travis Henry was next in line, but I don't remember why people were wanting Jamal to move on. Does anyone else remember this, and why that feeling was out there? Can't remember if it was an attitude problem or what.

With all that being said, wow, what a group of RB's. Jamal, Travis Henry and Travis Stevens. Kinda makes me depressed now.

He didn't run the ball as hard after the injury. Quite a few thought he was playing scared to make the pros.

Watching this video only strengthens my opinion of how terrible our running game truly is...TP and Lane, I like you Brah but you are not meant to play in the SEC

Richardson doesn't quite have the speed but that guy has broken more tackles in one game then our backs did all season.

Agree with you on Poole, but remember Marlin Lane is just a freshman. He has also been banged up. Not to mention, he is just a little over a year removed from a serious knee injury. He showed some flashes this year. He just had fumble issues. Plus, our O-line isn't the best at blocking.

Our runningbacks need to watch Jamal's film and notice how his cuts are decisive and quick. He doesn't studder step side to side. It is a slight change of direction but he continues forward momentum. With Zone blocking, decisiveness is key and our RBs don't exhibit it. I have seen Lane flash it on occasion, but he still has too much side movement. That could be because he is scared of being hit since his injury, he is young and use to being able to juke and run around everyone in high schoool, or a few other issues. Give the guy a little time to get healthy and have an off-season in the weight room. He might end up pretty good.

I understand that. I never said Lane would be Jamal Lewis nor did I say he was going to be any good for that matter. I said give him a little time before we call him a complete bust... Jamal had a much better offensive line. I under Good RBs make OLs look better, but the reverse is true as well. If you want to compare the two of them, compare the fact that Jamal Lewis came out his Junior year after a serious knee injury, with all these expectations and didn't live up to them. Scared of getting hurt or it wasn't completely healed? Only he knows that truthfully. His second year removed from the injury he goes on to tear it up in the NFL. Lets see next year once Lane has had some strength and conditioning, time to heal, better OLine play, etc. whether he is worth anything. My guess is as good as yours.

I am just saying somehow people on this board seem to write players off as busts if they don't have the impact of an Eric Berry, Peyton Manning, Jamal Lewis, Al Wilson, etc. in their freshman year. People use Leonard Little to compare Juco's also. *News Flash* Every recruit isn't going to turn out to be equivalent to some of the Greatest players in UT history.

Who else have you saw/seen that has played that way their fresh and soph. years, not very many if any. Players like that, it's not often they come around, he was a freak. Just because he broke out early doesn't mean all of them will.
